To ask if it’s normal to feel like this

I’m nervous to even tell people I need to use the toilet or go to the toilet. Also while in hospital I avoided using the toilet until I really had to as didn’t feel comfortable with going to the toilet there. Is this a sign of being over thinking things or do others feel the same

I don’t like having a poo anywhere but home and tend to get constipated on holidays because of it but I’d wee literally anywhere Grin Is it hygiene anxiety?

What is it exactly you are worried about ?

It's not really normal, no. But I don't think that's what matters here. What matters is its limiting your life and therefore something you should probably seek help with.

I've known other people who have hangups about going to the toilet -- its not particularly uncommon. But its hard to go through life struggling with talking about anything that's such a basic function. You would probably find it very liberating not to have to worry about this.

Have you thought of getting counselling for this?

I think it’s just the thought of people knowing I’m using the toilet or hearing me. Which is silly as obviously we all go.

I think it’s a relatively common fear, OP, probably related to insecurity while vulnerable and partly undressed.
When I was younger, I couldn’t use the loo on trains, which was a problem as my trip home from uni was up to 14 hours on the train (weekend service with engineering works and long delays). I didn’t drink a drop, but despite being v dehydrated, was still desperate by the time I got home!

Yeah, life is too short to allow things like this to hold you back from doing stuff.

The fact that it's "silly" is neither here nor there: everyone has hangups and irrational fears and reactions. By definition they are "silly".

The important point is that its not great to not be able tell people you're doing something as normal as going to the toilet. It must be massively limiting in your life. I would try to get some help with it.

This is going to sound really weird!!
But have you tried sitting in a public ladies loo, when you dont need it and just listening?
All sorts of sounds, people just too busy getting on with their day to care about who hears them peeing, farting and the rest. Nobody... but nobody is the slightest bit interested in any noises you might make...
I say this as someone who spent decade trying to pee SILENTLY!!
Now... I blame my age... I really dont care.. I need to pee.. I dont know these people.. I probably will never come across them again...I dont actually see most of them even when we are using the same facilities... and most of all I really really dont care what they think of me!!
