Hello MN :). Short story is at mid July I ate at Pizza Hut. The next day I had bad cramps and mild diarrhea. This diarrhea and pain carried on till around the end of august :( ruining my birthday in the process. It was that bad I cried in the sainsburys car park! Not my finest moment. Went to the Gp and they just told me to drink dirolyte (can’t spell it). Does anyone know I what I suffered from? It can’t be a stomach bug as the other people in my house didn’t get it plus I have a massive fear of ‘Novid’, the stomach disease beginning with N…won’t say it as it’s triggering. And I’m mega mega careful with hygiene

It was ages ago why do you care now? It was a bug, it happened. Move on. If you are that anxious you can't even type a word you need to seek help for your anxiety.

courtshoe · 12/11/2021 20:44

Huh? Why are you concerned? Move on

queenMab99 · 12/11/2021 20:45

Salmonella can last a long time, a friends child had it for weeks, after eating a dodgy ice cream. They had to be really careful as a household, but no one else got it.

TheNinny · 12/11/2021 20:49

I had horrendous stomach pain and diorrhea with salmonella. And puking too for about 2 weeks the stomach cramps lasted 3 weeks. I lost a stone in weight. Was from a prawn sandwich I ate 1 day out of date I think ….

DaisyandSimeon · 12/11/2021 20:49

I had a fever and slight diarrhoea and felt rough for two days. It was a virus, but for 6 months I had hideous stomach cramps, loose stools, desperate urgency to poo if I ate anything. Lost 7 lbs because eating caused such pain. GP said the virus had upset my gut and gut bacteria and it often takes 6 months to resolve. Its entirely possible food poisoning could do the same.

eurochick · 12/11/2021 20:52

Probably just food poisoning.

RosettaR · 12/11/2021 21:01

I had e coli once from a holiday abroad and had diarrhea for two weeks. So I would think other food poisoning could potentially last longer. Its not a verdict on your hygiene, you could have got it from anywhere you ate out or bought a sandwich. You'll never know now so may as well forget it.

DeepaBeesKit · 12/11/2021 21:01

Could be loads of things. Stress/anxiety induced IBS etc.

IVflytrap · 12/11/2021 21:05

I would guess food poisoning or possibly a bad stomach bug that disrupted your "good" gut bacteria, so you felt the effects of it for quite a while before your system got itself back in order. Maybe the bit of pizza you had had some bad meat on, or someone handled your food with germy hands. It's not uncommon for these things to take a while to resolve, unfortunately.

Ileflottante · 12/11/2021 21:06

You probably had a parasite.

careerchangeperhaps · 12/11/2021 21:08

Did you eat the ice cream at Pizza Hut? Those soft serve machines always worry me as they don't look easy to clean properly and the ice cream comes out half melted which suggests that it's not really kept cold enough.

The fact that the symptoms persisted for so long suggests it was some kind of infection that took a while to clear.

Clun · 12/11/2021 21:09

What’s Pizza Hut got to do with eat?

Chargreen · 12/11/2021 21:10

You’re alright now, OP? Leave it in the past, it really doesn’t matter. Look ahead

Doggydreaming · 12/11/2021 21:11

I remember gwtting the most horrendous cramps and diahrrea once drom eating sugar free sweets. It was the malitol in them. Could it have been something like this?

AdelindSchade · 12/11/2021 21:11

I had food poisoning once that lasted for weeks and weeks. It was miserable.

Winnietherose · 12/11/2021 21:13

I had campylobacter which was just like you have described. I got it from a chicken sandwich. I had to have antibiotics to get rid of it, and couldn’t work as it is a notifiable disease and I work with pregnant mothers. I did feel ok after a week but couldn’t go back to work until the diarrhoea had stopped. Sounds the same.

Agreed. It was some kind of bug or some sort of food poisoning. As long as you're better now, what does it matter?
Angrymum22 · 12/11/2021 21:29

Campylobacter causes really bad cramping for some time after the infection has gone. I had it some years ago. I ende up passing large amount of blood. The pain was similar to contractions but in reverse, they started off a few minutes apart but gradually the interval increased. The cramps lasted for about a month.
Campylobacter is usually due to poor food hygiene. It’s too late now to chase Pizza Hut, but if you had had it confirmed then it would have been worth reporting to the food hygiene agency. It’s a really serious bacteria for babies and young children.

WonderfulYou · 12/11/2021 22:13

As PPs have suggested it could have been stress/anxiety related but I’ve had an illness similar to covid - cough, sore throat, high temp. and generally feeling unwell but I also had sickness and diarrhoea for a few weeks leading up to it. It wasn’t the same as food poisoning where it’s constant for a couple of days and then it’s over, it was only every now and then but lasted longer.

Blueskip · 12/11/2021 22:21

I've felt sick and had stomach issues for weeks after vomiting bugs before. The only thing that helped was taking prebiotics and trying not to stress about it!

lljkk · 12/11/2021 22:22

Nerves.

Cheerbear23 · 12/11/2021 23:40

A bit of IBS following food poisoning? The gut can be sensitive and disrupted for a long time after an infection.

LiquidSodaCrystal · 12/11/2021 23:42

I agree sounds like camphylobacter. Check trip advisor reviews for that time - you might not have been the only one.
