Can anyone advise please? Posting for traffic...
DD has a course on Friday, it was booked months ago and looking at the paperwork it's just online now, although it says classroom, it states no face to face courses are running.
But what does she do? Just sit at home and log in somewhere on the day? She's been given no info, just a ref number and pin.
There are no phone numbers or helplines so it's a bit confusing.
Anyone done one recently?
TIA

She must have some emails about it surely? But they're run by police forces or contractors so it might work differently in different parts of the country.

DP did one and it was on Zoom. I don't know the details but I assume he was sent a link and he sat there on the laptop for an afternoon.

It can't have been difficult because he's never used a computer really and he managed to deal with the initial 'we've caught your car speeding, was it you driving', you need to book onto a course and here's the link to do it, if you don't take part, engage and keep your camera on so we can see it's you and you're actually there, we'll take further action' instructions.

But if she's old enough to possess a driving licence and get caught speeding, using her phone or whatever she's done to land her on the course, she's old enough to solve this particular problem herself?

WhoWillBuyThisWonderfulMorning · 10/11/2021 09:59

Not had any correspondence since booking, just a booking ref.
Yes I agree she's definitely old enough to sort it out herself but she has a really busy stressful job and I'm sat at home so thought I'd ask.
She was doing 37 in a 30 zone.

Has she received a text or email with the zoom meeting details - meeting ID and password? She’ll need to have paper and writing instrument of choice to hand as well.

CounsellorTroi · 10/11/2021 10:01

If just done one and it was no bother.

WhoWillBuyThisWonderfulMorning · 10/11/2021 10:01

No zoom details, just a booking reference and PIN

Maybe they haven't sent it out yet? But she must have an email confirming the date and time of the course. Has she run a search for that?

CounsellorTroi · 10/11/2021 10:05

Are you sure the booking reference isn’t a zoom meeting ID?

thevassal · 10/11/2021 10:06

She must have had some communication about it. Perhaps it's in her junk mail or she accidentally deleted it. Google whatever company is named on the booking confirnation email and find a tel number for them. If you really can't find anything ring 101 for the police force covering the area she was caught speeding in and ask them but I would try other options first before bothering the police.

And tell her she needs to get on it now, immediately - can't believe she's left it until Wednesday to work out (and delegate to her mum) when the course is on Friday. If she emails today it is unlikely anyone would get back to her by Friday anyway so you will need to phone. If it's you phoning just give your daughters details as if you are her speaking otherwise they will just say they will only speak to her.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/11/2021 10:08

Yes, she needs to sort this ASAP because if she doesn't 'attend' the course, it could be that they'll give her the points and possibly levy a fine in addition to the fee she will have paid.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/11/2021 10:12

DH has just done one. He was sent a list of times and dates a few weeks in advance and chose which one worked best for him. He was sent the link just before the meeting began. It's all explained in the original confirmation email.

Has your DD actually booked onto a course or just read the list and thought "OK!"

If she has booked on and has had confirmation then she is booked on and will get a link. But yes, she needs to ring, there are contact details on the original email, and check she has done all she should.

WhoWillBuyThisWonderfulMorning · 10/11/2021 10:27

Thanks, yes she booked it and paid for it straight away. There is an email address on the original letter so I will get her to look at that. She has definitely had no emails about it.
Maybe she will get a link sent just before the meeting starts?

It should say when she should expect to receive the link. Not the same as this but I do a lot of CPD online now and the links generally arrive the day before.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 10/11/2021 10:30

Yes,she will. If she has has made payment and had the confirmation then she needs to be sat ready to go about 10 minutes before the meeting starts. Give herself time to get settled.

DH found it was all very easy to navigate, just sit, nod a bit, to prove you are not a cardboard cut out, respond as and when required Smile

CounsellorTroi · 10/11/2021 10:31

I’ve just checked and I got my text with the Zoom details the day before the course.

WhoWillBuyThisWonderfulMorning · 10/11/2021 10:40

Thanks so much everyone Flowers

Mine was from Thames Valley Police, with Drivetech and was on teams. Email confirmation was sent straight away and a reminder two days before.

One man failed as was paying zero attention and if anyone else was in the room (apart from an interpreter) they were told quickly to leave.

Backasecondtime · 10/11/2021 11:45

DH done one recently and I had to keep out of the room he was doing it in just so your DD knows so she can set it up to do it in case she shares a house with others. DH got his reminder a couple of days before.
