Breast cysts- reassurance needed!

I have very lumpy boobs that seem to flare up around my hormone cycle (made worse this month by starting HRT and then stopping as is didn’t agree with me so have had extra oestrogen) - they have been particularly bad this month & the lumps are starting to go down again- it’s very unnerving. But this month there is one area that is super painful and tender to the tough- it feels bruised (probably made worse by me prodding about to be honest)

Am going to the docs but Aibu to ask for reassurance. It’s horrible when something changes & I feel so anxious. This all didn’t happen until my period started and I am perimenopausal so my logical brain is saying not to worry but I am really really worried!

Its probably a cyst that's got infected. This happened to me recently and it went away completely after a couple of rounds of antibiotics.

I get cysts all the time and end up at the breast clinic about once a year due to finding a large lump which inevitably is a cyst and has to be drained. Every time they tell me I’ve done the right thing and that all lumps should be investigated and that if I get another one I should book in again. Because the time I don’t … anyway so absolutely get reassurance and don’t feel bad if it ends up being a cyst which hopefully is what it is.

I have a cyst on my right breast for thirty years, like yours OP, it becomes more painful at the time of month and has a bruise type pain if pressed.
Annual checks have shown no concerns fortunately.
It is painful if it is pressed too hard.
Please try not to worry too much, I'm sure that breast cyst's are more common than we think and are generally harmless, as in none cancerous.

On a side note.....
There is a security lady at the airport in my home country who insists on squeezing breasts ( legal and allowed ) which makes me yelp because she always manages to press her thumb hard on the cyst somehow!
I spend the flight nursing a painful breast and cursing her. I'm surprised that she doesn't finish it off with a nipple twist! Sadistic cow!

I have cysts. My god they can hurt. If you’re anxious you’ll probably also checking a lot which will hurt.

But you are absolutely right to get checked. I’d also push for a referral to the breast clinic just for an ultrasound/mammogram. This will firstly give you reassurance, and secondly you will know your ‘normal’ for future checking. I’ve been referred three times to a breast clinic for new lumps (all cysts and normal tissue) and no one feels like you’re wasting their time, because you’re not.

My breast tissue also becomes very lumpy around my period and I was advised to do my monthly check one week after my period has finished as the hormones will have decreased by then and the hormonal lumps will have gone down.

Good luck and don’t worry. You already have cysts so it’s likely another. Also cysts do not mean you’re more likely to develop cancer.

All the best.

Thanks everyone- I am really worried but I think it’s because there is a ‘change’ - prodding has definitely made it worse though!

Update, feels like something might have ‘popped’ as the pain is suddenly less- is that a thing?

If you feel that, definitely go to the doctors.
