Context: boyfriend and I moved from country X to the USA 9 months apart. He arrived in late 2020, me mid 2021.

We don't use condoms, been together 3 years. I found an old box of them (on whose lid I had written the number of condoms remaining as a joke) that I remember he packed when he left. Country X customer service numbers on box. Condom expiry 2022.

Next to it I found a new box. Open, 3 missing. American customer service numbers. Expiry 2025. And a bottle of lubricant, with an American tax-exclusive price sticker on it.

I asked him why they were there. He had no explanation, just said it must have come from some long lost suitcase. Then got angry that I invaded his privacy. Then suggested I was "investigating" because I felt guilty about something.

Condoms have a maximum lifespan of 5 years.

Is my assumption unreasonable.

They’ve clearly been purchased in the USA and they weren’t purchased for you.

ThePriceOfSugar · 10/11/2021 00:32

Seems like the only possible explanation. He's cool as a cucumber and saying "believe what you want to believe".

Ah "believe what you want to believe" is the classic call of the liar. See also "I'm not going to dignify that with an answer".

Sorry op Flowers

Notimeforaname · 10/11/2021 00:58

I'm sorry he's a cheat. The scumbag

Whattheschitt · 10/11/2021 00:59

Definitely a cheater. LTB.

Notimeforaname · 10/11/2021 01:01

I'd get tested anyway.

Even though he's bought and used condoms at some point, you still don't know the full story and likely never will so please get checked, to be sure.

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/11/2021 01:03

He cheated. Ugh sorry OP.

JennyDune · 10/11/2021 01:11

Tbh, he might have bought them for self-use...but is to embarrassed to admit/explain.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 10/11/2021 01:13

Wow, that's horrible and inconvenient given you presumably moved there to be together. So sorry. Are you both from there or have visas and whatnot? Obviously the usual LTB advice, might not be as straightforward Flowers.

TrickorTreacle · 10/11/2021 01:14

2+2=5

PrincessNutella · 10/11/2021 01:18

I'm sure he bought them for guests. Like, to put in the guest room. Or something. Oh that's not helping is it, OP. :(.

madisonbridges · 10/11/2021 01:28

I have absolutely no knowledge of whether your boyfriend has cheated or not but you will find that 2+2 does not always equal 4. Therefore, if you are judging his automatic guilt on the premise 2+2=4, you might find you're wrong.
(Don't ask me to explain why 2+2 does not always equal 4 - it was too difficult for my non-mathematical mind to retain the explanation!)

ThePriceOfSugar · 10/11/2021 02:43

Thanks for the replies and for making me feel like I'm not crazy. He's now saying it might be because he unwittingly tossed them in with his things after his long term stays in airbnbs since he's been here. The lubricant which appeals to his proclivities is harder for him to write off.

OP posts:
IreneIddesleigh · 10/11/2021 03:56

I'd think he's not only a cheat, but also rather a stupid one not to have disposed of the evidence. Did he think you'd not notice? Didn't want to waste money by throwing it out? Hmm
