To expect a physical transformation before Saturday ?

I've given up wine and all other alcohol but only since Saturday.
I was drinking too much and feeling awful, anxious and self loathing. I drank most nights, often up to one bottle and a half of wine per night.
I also looked bloated, pasty, blotchy and generally wrecked and swollen for weeks of too much drink.
I have a special occasion on Saturday and would really like to look well.
I'm drinking more water and sleeping better already. My urinary and bowel system seem to have kicked into action again. My mood is better but what I am asking is if I am
Being unreasonable to expect and improvement in my physical appearance and any tips for hurrying up the process!

Face masks. Brightening or rehydrating or for fatigued skin. Loooootttts of water. Sleep, as much as you can manage. It’ll only be a superficial change but enough for you to look brighter for Saturday

TotallySuper · 09/11/2021 14:27

As above. However the main thing is you've significantly changed your health and lifestyle for the better - be proud of this and the happiness will shine through you which will be noticeable on Saturday. Well done.

Thanks. Should water lessen the swelling and bloating by any amount before the weekend?

If you've been drinking a bottle of wine a night for a longish period, a lot of the bloating is likely to be fat rather than just water weight. Wine is pretty high in calories. Drinking water between now and Saturday will certainly help, and some facial massage might help de-puff your face, but you're unlikely to see a massive transformation in 7 days.

Smile a lot, put on something that flatters, wear your glowiest makeup, and you'll look great.

But cutting down the wine will really benefit you in the long run so well done on that!

Milk thistle supplements are supposed to help detox the liver.

No idea if there are side effects or how long you have to take them for though

TheLikesofMe · 09/11/2021 19:24

Book a hairdresser.
Get your nails done.
Have a facial.
Have your make up done professionally.
Have a spray tan if that's your thing
Wear something that makes you feel great.

You will look lovely and feel confident!

Well done on giving up the wine.

TheLikesofMe · 09/11/2021 19:24

Ps. Buy a pair of Spanx!

CommanderBurnham · 09/11/2021 19:51

Yes to milk thistle.
You could try aqua ban tabs
Yoga can stretch you out at bit

Just be careful and don't overdo it.

Heels, posture, Spanx as well.

Walking moves the blood and lymph round the body quicker. So presumably that can help. As can being out in the fresh air.

If you were drinking a lot and you suddenly stopped though you can feel pretty grim. You can seek help if you feel unwell.

A good blow dry at the hairdressers can work wonders. As can properly applied makeup, good foundation underwear (Spanx and underwired bra), and feeling good about yourself.

Have a great day at your occasion.

shouldistop · 09/11/2021 19:54

Well done op! That's a hard habit to kick. You're doing really well.
You'll probably look brighter from drinking lots of water and sleeping better.
Why not have a bit of a pamper week too? Either professionally or yourself depending on funds. Hair, eyebrows and nails done always make me feel more put together. Start taking a multivitamin if you don't already.

shouldistop · 09/11/2021 19:57

Water balance tablets might help a bit with bloating. And exercise.

sjxoxo · 09/11/2021 19:59

Omg congrats I think this is a really hard shift! So well done. Deffo get a facial to treat yourself, & drink plenty of water but I think you’ll have a way more glory appearance Saturday than normal given the change in quantity of alcohol in your system- I would have thought you would’ve been mega dehydrated on a daily basis. The other thing that’s lovely to do before a special evening is go and get your make up done by a specialist make up counter. You can book sessions at MAC counters where they teach you to do your make up, I would absolutely recommend. They are magicians and you will be amazed at what they can do. Plus they teach you during the session so you can copy at home! You’ll feel a million dollars come sat im sure xo

Are you sure it’s bloat and not weight gain?

Also are you eating healthily? You don’t mention diet but if you’re eating lots of carbs and salt then stopping the wine makes little difference!

Of course stopping drinking a bottle of wine a night makes a huge difference! It will majorly reduce ops risk of liver disease for a start!
MissConductUS · 09/11/2021 20:08

Well done OP. Isn't it lovely feeling okay when you wake up?

You will feel better generally and about yourself by Saturday. That alone will improve how people see you.

Isolateykatey · 09/11/2021 20:08

@shouldistop Of course it’s a good thing but I mean to her waistline!

If she’s eating crap then she might still be bloated. She’s posting about being bloated.

Againstmachine · 09/11/2021 20:15

Milk thistle supplements are supposed to help detox the liver.

What tosh, only way to help liver clean it's self are to stop putting toxins in like alcohol.

You shouldn't expect miracles but by end of week you should begin to look more fresh face.

Detoxs are sold by people making a buck.

CommanderBurnham · 09/11/2021 20:22

@Againstmachine It's actually a well known method for detoxing the liver.

I don't get a hangover if I take it before and after a night out

Againstmachine · 09/11/2021 20:29

It's actually well known detoxs are total rubbish, and the hangover claim isn't even about detoxing.

Summerhillsquare · 09/11/2021 20:49

Well done OP, what a big step!

I've a friend who's a bit of a party animal shall we say, but he also likes a good bike ride, and looks much clearer skinned and eyed after the excercise.
