To ask whether electrician will check every socket?

Calling all tenants (and maybe landlords): the property I live in is due an electrical safety check (EICR). Can anyone tell me what this involves - are they literally going to have to test every single socket? There are tons in this property and a lot of them are hidden by furniture (and crap…) - am I going to have to identify every single one and move everything so they can get to them?! What else do they look at?

From memory they will need to check every socket! It can be a huge nuisance, of course - but having your home burn down would be worse …

Tbh though it’s more the fuse board to worry about with the new standards, it’s different to a few years ago.

Mine didn’t. Only the fuse box but it took about an hour.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like a mixed bag of possibilities. Mightn’t be a bad idea for me to make them all reasonably accessible then…sigh.

We had one not long ago and he even had to go in the bathroom to check the light and things! Mortified because I was halfway through cleaning it but yeah if they do it properly they need to get to them all (but they also have a knack for getting to them with furniture in the way)
