Best day to move? (start of Jan - renting)

Good morning. Happy Monday.

I may be moving at the start of Jan (just awaiting confirmation), and I wondered what people's thoughts are on the best day to move?

I'm on leave for Christmas until the 4th, so I may take the remainder of the week off....

I usually move on Fridays

I'd move a Thursday or a Friday, then you've got time to get all your stuff in and still have a day of relaxing left on Sunday when you're mostly in and sorted, without feeling rushed.

Our last move we did it in staggered bits - most of the 'stuff' Thursday (clothes, kitchen bits, books etc), put it all in the front room, slept over at the old house.

Friday we moved all the furniture except the sofas, spent the day putting everything in piles/boxes in the room it needed to live in, leaving the living room clear. Sorted the bedroom out mostly and stayed at the new house.

Then Saturday I put everything away in its respective rooms while DH went and got the sofas and did a last clean at the old house, so by the time he came back with just the sofas and coffee table to put in the living room, we were pretty much done and sorted.

Sunday was for cooking in our new kitchen and just having a bit of down time.

I'll never not overlap rental periods by at least a few days if I can help it - it was so much easier than trying to do it all on one day, so my biggest tip would be to give yourself at least a couple of days' overlap if you can afford to.

The way Christmas and New Year fall this year means there are bank holidays on 27th and 28th December and 3rd of January. If you need removals or even just to hire a van you may have issues or need to book an extended hire period depending on when you choose to move.

Hello, thank you. Just to check, so are you saying there'll be issues moving this week, say if I chose Friday the 7th Jan?

Not by the 7th of Jan, just that it was worth bearing in mind depending on when you were thinking of.
