To turn up and collect parcel?

Not really an AIBU but kind off I suppose. OH stupidly went and ordered something to our old address. I know the girl that lives there now as I has to go and pick up some post that was there.

Anyhoo I apologised about OH getting the parcel delivered there and asked if it was ok if she could take it in, if she was going to be at home. She said yes that was fine..

I've messaged her for two days now asking if he can come and pick it up she has opened the messages and not responded.

Is it ok for OH to just turn up and get it?

Yes I would.

TotallySuper · 08/11/2021 12:57

Yep sound a bit dodgy. I'd just turn up when you know she'll be in. Was it an expensive item?

RosieLancs · 08/11/2021 14:09

I don't think it's dodgy on her part at all.
She's probably a bit Hmm at you guys still getting parcels delivered there after you moved especially if she didn't know you before.

Just pop round and politely ask for it.

melj1213 · 08/11/2021 14:32

It's hardly dodgy that she hasn't responded for a couple of days Hmm

it was Bonfire weekend this weekend and I know I have been busier than usual with lots of commitments, so if someone was wanting to collect something from me then I might have opened the messages, needed to check something before agreeing to a time and totally forgotten ... or been out and read the messages but didn't want to interrupt what I was doing with DD/friends to start working out parcel collection logistics.

OP I'd either just message and say something like "DH will collect on X day at Y time, unless you let us know you're unavailable" or just go round and get your parcel.

She might be uncomfortable that a "strange" man is coming round to collect a parcel he "accidentally" had delivered to his old address.... Can you not go and get it @creamcrackerdmum?

This is what I thought. You’ve got her number, so could you phone her?
Debsdonein · 10/11/2021 18:49

@creamcrackerdmum Have you got
your parcel?

Babymamamama · 10/11/2021 19:09

He can try but she’s under no obligation to act as your postroom. You need to reassure her it’s for the last time.

Royalbloo · 10/11/2021 19:29

I'd just go and knock on their door...

ViaRia · 11/11/2021 10:12

I don’t understand why so many people are concerned about knocking on a door (or having their door knocked on).
I don’t mean this directed at you OP, just in general.
In my mind, anyone can knock on anyone’s front door. It is up to the person inside whether or not they choose to open it.
So yes, absolutely, either you or your DP should pop over to collect the parcel.

SusieBob · 11/11/2021 10:22

Just pop over and collect it. You are massively overthinking this.

However.... if you are still going over there to pick up post I hope you are taking steps to change addresses or are going to set a redirect up.
