YANBU.

It’s tacky, insensitive and there’s absolutely no need. Horrible for survivors.

I’m sick of dramas being made that basically try and “understand” the violent men who do these abominable things.

Sick of male directors and producers using women’s trauma to make money and having the audacity to call it “art” or “in the public interest”.

It might (just might) get the extent of the abuse to a wider audience.

Three Girls was appalling, enthralling and horrifying in equal measure.

Bearnecessity · 07/11/2021 20:17

And to some men educational, salacious and encouraging....normal people are appalled...

My late dh and I could never see the so called appeal of JS. He was known as the perv in our house. Just deeply saddened that we were proved right. No I certainly don't need to see this 'docu drama' made

YANBU I can't help but feel that the BBC are getting in quickly to make it first so they can spin/minimise the story as much as possible.

A580Hojas · 07/11/2021 20:24

Yanbu but there is at least one other thread on the same subject.

MrsGeralt · 07/11/2021 20:31

I certainly don't agree with the bbc making it. They're profiting off their own despicable failures.

FangsForTheMemory · 07/11/2021 20:35

I have no intention of watching it. I suggest this as a course of action.

You can't police what other people do.

His story is a study in how powerful people get away with so much. So many of these stories are still emerging, and powerful people are still getting away with so much.. in our culture we aren't good at spotting it - so it's useful, educationally, to break down how that happens.

I understand many people won't want to watch it, but not why anyone would think it shouldn't be made. The producers and writers will have worked with some of the victims as part of writing it.
