To think HRT has really messed with my system

I started oestrogel at the start of my last cycle and it really didn’t agree with me. Managed 10 days but it made me feel really unwell, dizzy, increased my anxiety and made my boobs MASSIVE! I had to stop it and felt better almost immediately which is weird in itself as I was experiencing perimenopause symptoms before.

Anyway, I just had a really heavy period but my boobs have been really really uncomfortable - loads of pain, one was really lumpy & extra sore. I do get very lumpy boobs at my period & cysts but it’s been really bad- really painful stabby pains when moving about. It’s freaked me out a bit- they are a bit better today on day 5 but I am still bleeding which is also unusual.

Aibu to think that the 10 days of extra oestrogen I had could have triggered this? Obviously if the lumps carry on I will go to the doc but they are starting to subside.

I know the oestrogel is meant to be low doses but I really noticed it and had a reaction to it so could it have also messed with my cycle?

Yes absolutely it will have had an impact on you. Maybe you could alternate days? What progesterone component are you/were you taking too?

@AtrociousCircumstance have stopped it for now until i can get a review with the doc. It made me feel so shit and had the opposite effect that I hoped for to be honest. It could be that my hormones are still ok enough not to quite need it yet I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah it’s a unique path for all of us and a case of experimentation - which is a pain really!

Are you still having regular periods? It sounds as though this is too much extra oestogen for you at this stage.

@SirVixofVixHall yes, really regular periods. I was getting other symptoms like VA, anxiety, sleeplessness, low mood etc etc which is why I decided to try it but I don’t feel like it’s been a positive thing so far. Maybe it is just too early on 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh and it gave me really bad headaches too!

It does sound too early, when I was at your stage with some of your symptoms I was prescribed low dose transdermal progesterone , not oestrogen , (by a private menopause clinic), but that is not to say you also need that , as that is for you to work out with a medic. Possibly you only need topical vaginal oestrogen, it seems early to get VA if your periods are regular .
