To burn the house down (infestation???)

This morning I opened the cutlery drawer and there is a pile of beige tiny rice like stuff in the drawer (see pic).

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that this is some sort of pest infestation, but I'm failing to find out what it is by googling the image and various terms I could think of. Don't think it's weevels, pantry mites or moths. But could be wrong.

Can anyone identify what it is and tell me if I should burn my house down, or if there is a less extreme way of getting rid of it....

I'd guess woodworm.

Yes, you have to burn your house down and start again.

Do you have a nice expensive wooden kitchen? I wouldn't expect woodworm in a cheap kitchen from wicks, but I could be wrong.
I have a cheap kitchen from Wicks before anyone has a go

Hmmm... big standard kitchen with laminate worktop not solid wood. Looking at images of woodworm doesn't look like that. But I'll take a closer look and see if there are any 'proper' wood pieces in the unit and see if I can see any woodworm holes. Aggghhh!

Are you in the UK? It looks a bit like Google pics of termite droppings. Is the wood above the drawer damaged?

MrsYan · 06/11/2021 07:53

@LynetteScavo Wickes just quoted us 29k for a kitchen... almost fell off my chair.

LynetteScavo · 06/11/2021 07:55

They wouldn't be the actual woodworm worm, they would be the bits the woodworm leave behind (or termite droppings) as mentioned. I supposed they could eat any type of wood, not just antique oak the bastards

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/11/2021 08:00

Ant eggs maybe?

Allthebubbles · 06/11/2021 08:17

It looks to me like someone has spilt instant yeast- is that a possibility?

eurochick · 06/11/2021 08:27

It does look a lot like dried yeast.

Flypaper2000 · 06/11/2021 08:30

Another vote for yeast here! The pieces are all different lengths, surely eggs would be more uniform?

PoptyPinnnngggg · 06/11/2021 08:42

@Allthebubbles Spot on! Was discussing the issue with other half and was informed that they'd spilled yeast and hadn't realised it had gone into the drawer. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Drama over. House can remain un-torched! 🤭

Thanks all!

Haha, this is so funny. Grin

This reminds me of the time I left a pumpkin on the top of the fridge. It started to decay and drip rancid pumpkin juice down the fridge. DH and I thought the fridge was leaking an evil
chemical and bought a new one Grin

MustStopSnacking28 · 06/11/2021 12:10

Ha, that made me chuckle.

@lynetteScavo. 😂😂😂 Glad I'm not the only one that has jumped to the worst case scenario!

I think I was overexcited this morning when I opened the cutlery drawer this morning. I had a flashback to something I'd seen on the internet, that I couldn't find this morning. But I have found it now. Someone had similar stuff in their cupboards and it was termites. So obviously my mind jumped there this morning 😂

Yeast not beasts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
