what happened when you came off the pill?

I've been on the pill for over 10 years, I am in my late twenties.
The huge positive for me is that I had atrocious periods (suspected endo but awaiting endoscopy) and whilst I still get bad pains, it is shorter and more manageable. I also love knowing when the period will be and knowing I can prevent it (continuing the packet).

DH and I do want kids, but I don't think we're quite ready and I can't get pregnant for another year so that when I am due I'd qualify for enhanced maternity (difference in pay is £3k a month for 6 months!)

However, starting my pill correlates to when my emotions became more irrational - I became very jealous, highly alert etc. I have always shown OCD symptoms (now diagnosed) but the anxieties were not heavily on relationships and I was more trusting, but now I am always worried about SOMETHING in my relationships. I am far more depressive, struggle to calm down and my resting heart rate sits at 90-100 bpm despite being a healthy young woman. I always get pulled up for blood pressure when I have my pill check but it's always dismissed as I have no other signs and it's borderline.

I've read about people finding a huge change when they come off hormonal birth control.

AIBU to think my life could be completely different?
Please tell me your stories.

14 months of irregular cycles before finally managing to conceive, but nothing else. I will be coming off again soon as DH has had the snip and I'm expecting little to no change.

boymum88 · 05/11/2021 15:54

No change for me, but fell pregnant within 3 months the 1st time one month the 2nd time. I also have endo so try not to have periods, as I've got older I've had to play around with different pills to find one suitable as would have break through bleeding. I've now got the coil as no more baby's planned.
Maybe try a different pill or if you come off make sure to use a condoms if your not ready for a baby just yet.

Nothing happened really but it was a long time ago (only took it for a couple of years). Didn’t mess with my fertility as I’ve got pregnant first month three times, despite being fat.

On your other point, I take sertraline for PMDD which is a total gamer changer.

Rhioplepog · 05/11/2021 16:03

Been off the pill for 6 months. I feel happier. I want to have sex more. I have more feelings in general.

ponkydonkey · 05/11/2021 16:13

Stopped getting headaches, got acne at 25 🙄
Lost a stone

Felt less emotional 😭

MiniPumpkin · 05/11/2021 16:19

I was on the combined pill for at least ten years, I was just a bit miserable mostly when came off it. but vividly recall wanting to pull the walls around me at one point, I was absolutely raging and emotional about nothing. It only lasted a few months though

gingerroot · 05/11/2021 16:28

oh so many mixed experiences. to me this further proves how undervalued research into the female medical experience is.

I never have had acne so I hope that doesn't start.
I would like my sex drive to improve. it's there mentally but i often cba.

Sertraline made me go from 8 stone to 10 stone in 2 months. I am back down after stopping but never ever got back to my original weight or figure.

The obvious one here - I got pregnant immediately!
I'd been on the pill for 15 years odd.
Inwas horribly grumpy and outnon weight and felt shite.
But I think that was being pregnant.

Derrymum123 · 05/11/2021 17:57

Babies were made.

mangowithasqueezeoflime · 05/11/2021 18:59

Nothing. Literally nothing. Six years later, IVF and a baby.

TheShoeFits · 05/11/2021 19:13

Libido through the roof...like I'd never known. But periods were irregular. Had a lot of trouble trying TTC (took 3+ years). Of course hard to know if this was cause and effect, or changes happening anyway.

lemondrop21 · 05/11/2021 19:14

I was much happier. Less anxious. Less moody. Just all round felt a huge weight off my shoulders.

Hi I’ve been on the pill since 19 and I’m now 40. I’ve just come off it and am 2 days late - do you know if this is normal ? Or how long it takes to return ?
