In urgent care and feel like I've been pegged as a time waster

Not sure if I should stay or go to be honest. Was at work when I started to get pain in my left chest/shoulder. First aider at work sent me to urgent care but I've been sat ages and everyone is going in before me so I feel like I've been pegged as a time waster. Chest still hurts but I'm starting to feel bad for being here.

Doesn’t mean they think you’re a time waster just that they’ve triaged lots of other cases before you.

Notimeforaname · 04/11/2021 22:41

Do you feel the same/worse/better?

grapewine · 04/11/2021 22:42

Stay. It could be serious.

alexdgr8 · 04/11/2021 22:45

stay to get it checked out.
good luck.

Archersandlemonade · 04/11/2021 22:47

Pain in your chest should be triaged as urgent

QuestionableMouse · 04/11/2021 23:20

I feel okay, just tired (but I've been out since 9am so that's why!) Pain is the same, more really sore than anything but it's worrying me.

ask. sometimes they do not input the data correctly.

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 23:31

Are you okay? Didn’t you have to do something with a defribulator just yesterday?

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 04/11/2021 23:31

Better to stay and get checked than to leave and potentially get worse and have to go back, and wait again. It’s not nothing - it was bad enough for you to see the first aider at work, and the pain is still there. Fingers crossed for some unexceptional harmless cause.

QuestionableMouse · 04/11/2021 23:38

Yep, but that was for my mum who is currently back in hospital. Not for me.

They know I'm here and why but there are people with sprains going in before me. Feel bad for being here honestly 😔😕

Stay. Assuming you’re female - Signs of a heart attack are much more subtle in women. Best to check it out.

Blueskip · 04/11/2021 23:41

You're in the right place and were told to be there by a first aider. Chest pains should always be checked out, especially as women's heart problems present differently to men's.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 04/11/2021 23:46

Sorry about your mum.

If people with sprains are staying to be seen, you with your chest and shoulder pain should stay and be seen. Anyway, regardless of people with sprains. I just mean don’t feel bad about it, you’re not a time waster.

I’m sure urgent care would rather see you and tell you you’re basically fine with whatever is the leading benign cause of chest pain, than see you and find something serious.

julieca · 04/11/2021 23:47

Have you been triaged?

Mamamia7962 · 04/11/2021 23:48

Did you have your blood pressure and oxygen levels checked when you first went in? The people with sprains will be seeing a different doctor to you. I remember when my daughter hurt her eye we had to wait ages and other people were going in before her but she had to wait for a doctor from the opthalmic clinic to see her.

Maybe it might be worth asking someone just to make sure you haven't been forgotten.

MsMD · 04/11/2021 23:51

Sprains before you? That's not ok. Have you had an EKG? Vitals taken? Say something if not. Though, honestly you need to be at the ER, not Urgent Care.

TasteTheMeatNotTheHeat · 04/11/2021 23:52

Don't worry about the other patients. You don't know their situation. Hospitals are crazy places and people will be triaged for all sorts of things that you can't understand just from glancing at them.

You are where you are supposed to be. Hope you're feeling better soon.

LemonSwan · 05/11/2021 00:07

Check with the desk you havent been lost in the system. It does happen.

Happened to me just last week.

MrsCardone · 05/11/2021 00:10

I was in A&E with a suspected ectopic pregnancy and loads of people went in before me, even though they'd arrived after. There was one guy who had been stung by a bee. He didn't have anaphylaxis for anything, it was literally just a bee sting. But he still got in before me.

I will never understand the priority system in A&E. Stay where you are OP.

QuestionableMouse · 05/11/2021 00:25

Been seen and the doc said he wasn't sure what was going on but it's not my heart or lungs. He thinks it might be the start of shingles but he wasn't sure.

Summerfun54321 · 05/11/2021 00:26

Just ask reception. I went in with blood clots and waited for ages and they’d just missed me off the list!

julieca · 05/11/2021 00:26

Glad it isnt your heart or lungs.

Summerfun54321 · 05/11/2021 00:26

Just seen your update. Ignore my last post! Good to hear it’s not serious.

QuestionableMouse · 05/11/2021 00:27

Thanks! Just really hoping it's not shingles!

julieca · 05/11/2021 00:29

@QuestionableMouse I have had shingles twice. Its not nice, but at least you get over it and back to normal. Hope it isn't though.
