A 93 year old woman was attacked and killed in her room, at a care home, by another resident.

Said resident is in his early 60's and had been recently placed there after being detained under the mental health act at two separate hospitals in the lead up to the attack.

Forgive me if you think I'm being unreasonable, but the first thought that struck me (other than how upsetting it is) was that he shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Why was somebody with such severe MH problems placed in an unsecure care home with much older, vulnerable people?

No disrespect intended to folks with MH problems, I myself have a much loved relative with a severe MH illness that makes them unpredictable, and no way would it be appropriate for them to live somewhere like this.

Why would you be unreasonable? That's exactly what all the reports say.

I don't know, it seems sometimes you can never say/think the right thing when it comes to sensitive subjects like crime being commited by somebody who's mentally unwell and will be jumped on for not being more understanding.

But it doesn’t say that he was detained due to being physically aggressive (unless I’ve missed that) so how would they have known? He may have been detained due to early onset dementia causing issues or a whole host of other issues. It’s easy to say after that it was wrong but you don’t know the full situation

We don't know the full details, but I suspect they had nowhere else to place him where his needs could be met and they didn't know he was violent.
