To ask if we have escaped this?!

Me and 6 mo baby were around a toddler on Sunday who started vomiting with gastroenteritis about an hour after we left the house. Baby was cuddling toddler, kisses on face, that sort of thing. Toddler's DM felt unwell all day yesterday (severe nausea but no vomiting). She thinks this is because she was (in her words) "covered head to toe" in toddler's vomit when she was cleaning them up, so she thinks baby and I will be fine as we left before this began. DP also thinks it will be fine as more than 48 hrs have now passed since the toddler's symptoms began and we appear to be fine.

What are the chances we have escaped this?

(I know it seems a weird thing to worry excessively about but I have severe emetophobia as well as postnatal anxiety so really struggling atm) 😞

In my experience 48 hours is the typical incubation period for this type of thing and it happens a bit quicker in small children. Vomit and poo have the highest viral load. It also doesn't sound like the worst bug ever if she wasnt sick herself. I think you will be fine.

U will be ok

Lavender24 · 03/11/2021 09:14

Yeah I think if you were going to be ill it probably would have happened by now.

With that kind of bug it's only really spread through vomit/poo particles - so as long as the child hadn't already been sick when you were there, you'll almost certainly be fine.

I think you have escaped but i do understand how you feel

Adults are often already immune to lots of those toddler tummy bugs - my DD was prone to getting them, but we only rarely got ill as well!

PaintedDaisy · 03/11/2021 09:29

I think by the end of today you can safely say you've escaped it

Last week my 5 year old had it (he was sick all over me) and also 2 other family members who I had been around the day before came down with it and I’ve been fineSmile

I also have severe emetophobia (had a breakdown when DS threw up on me) and I know the anxiety around it!

Thanks all - I'm reassured by these replies!
