Does anyone else keep getting colds? Tips to boost immune system?

Every few weeks I seem to be getting a cold recently, not a proper cold but I feel it starting, get some rest/ dose up then it doesn’t materialise. Is anyone else having this? Could it be down to weakened immune system after lockdown etc? Work is really busy and stressful which probably isn’t helping. Any tips of how to boost immune system? I’m having a vitamin c drink of a morning and vitamin d tablets .

It sounds more like fall allergies to me.

SlugRose · 02/11/2021 19:35

Zinc when you get a sniffle

Rainydays55 · 02/11/2021 19:37

Is fall allergies a thing? Zinc tablets?

Yeah Zinc, have a Google. There's safe limits though.

Omg yes! I’ve had a cold on and off for about the last 6 weeks or so 😩😩😩

On Sunday I had finally stopped sniffling but just literally just this afternoon it’s started again!! Gonna overload on fruit and veg I think (and pray for a miracle!) 😄🤦🏻‍♀️

Zinc October - January

CelloYouveGotABass · 02/11/2021 20:03

Zinc, vitamin D, nasal rinses, a lot of hand washing and mouthwash

I always get them, and yes, they are a thing. Try OTC allergy meds.

Sounds like allergies and stress. Try to reduce stress, eat healthily, exercise, and get a decent amount of sleep

I dose up on chilli and garlic at this time of year. As soon as I get a snuffle I make the hottest curry I can bear, must be loaded with fresh ginger, chilli and garlic and make my nose stream. The next day I feel brand new although stink for a while

I buy Vitamin C & Zinc effervescent tablets, orange flavoured and have one every other day as a drink. Quite cheap from Tesco in a tube. Not had a cold since before the pandemic, despite DH and DS having had colds recently. Was recommended to take them from a teaching assistant who swore by them.

I've had about a cold a week since the beginning of term, plus I also had Covid. Exercise has helped me in the past but I can't do much at the moment because of some other issues.

Eggsley · 02/11/2021 21:39

Yes, me! I'm on my third heavy cold in 4 weeks and I'm fed up. My immune system seems to do this every few years and I get everything going between October and April.

In the past the doctor has suggested I have a probiotic drink like Actimel every morning, which I did for years and then stopped during lockdown. I will be getting some tomorrow, along with the effervescent vitamin C and zinc tablets. I started taking a multivitamin this morning too. Plus I will be upping my fruit and veg, and drinking lots of water and hot drinks.

My late grandmother always said wearing a warm scarf around your neck outside will help, which I have started doing again. Also a whisky, hot water and honey before bed. She lived to 97 so I'm following her advice on this tonight!

Next I need to work on reducing stress and getting more sleep...not quite as easy to do...

Hope everyone is feeling better soon Thanks

I started to really focus on health at the beginning of the pandemic (I needed to - I'm 49, smoke to much, drink too much, exercise too little and ate shit) and I've honestly never felt better.

I take multi vit with iron, vit d, vit c, iodine, zinc, tumeric&ginger, marine collagen, nac and maca. You might not need all these but I'm reluctant to discard any. And I don't take them every day - maybe 3 times a week.

I also only drink distilled or filtered water, try and eat much better food including lots of veg and decent quality meat. Exercise more. Still drink and smoke alas but Rome wasn't built in a day.

The only time I've been ill in the last 18 months was when I got Covid last November, and even then my symptoms were very very mild and only lasted 3 days. I've even managed to come off HRT and prescription painkillers which I took for a knee condition.

My teenage daughter bought me a herbal remedy book and loads of hippy stuff such as insense and crystals for my birthday as she saw how much I started to get into this alternative health stuff. Not sure how much benefit my crystal bracelet has had, but it definitely makes me feel happy when I look at it because it reminds me of her 🤣

Could be allergies. Could also be we’re getting over the top clean so bathing ourselves and everything around us in anti bac anti viral must be doing something to our immune systems. I also heard similar to actimel (yakolt in my case - not sure of spelling), apparently it’s a misconception (most likely because of how it’s marketed) that it’s “just” for bowel health, it seems there are a lot more positives to this particular supplement.
