To think this is really scummy behaviour on the school run

So just come back from picking up my DC from school. On the walk there, a guy was walking in front of me smoking weed.....I hate the smell but wasn't particularly shocked or massively outraged, until I saw him also going into the school and picking his child up. He put the joint out a few metres or so before he got to the gates.

I think this is really shitty when you're on the way to collect your DC from school....just wondering what others thought?

It's gross to smoke anything close to a school, especially drugs.
I also don't think anyone under the influence of any drug should be caring for a child.

We see this at our school. Parents smoking a joint on the way to school and drop off in the morning.

It’s a very naice area as well. But a totally scummy thing to do around children who must be breathing in second hand weed.

I have no problem with people consuming cannabis and think it should be considered the same as having a glass of wine or similar. And this is the equivalent of walking up to a school, drunk and drinking, to collect a child. I would have reported him to the school and/or police.

Sadly I have had the same thing happen on the way to school.
I did actually tell the school if my child stunk of weed it wasnt me.
I'm generally pretty lax about weed but not on the school run.

It’s like someone drinking a cans of beer outside of the school - at the very least have a bit of decency to do it before you leave so no one knows.

Yeah, it's grim - in the same way having a drink on the way to school would be. If he's that casual about it in public I'd wonder what he was like at home

That's a bit daft since caffeine is also a drug and 90% of the parents I know consume coffee daily.

Just mentioning here that I do not condone illegal drug use around children or on the school run.

You need to let the school know. Teachers are not permitted to release children into the care of anyone "under the influence".

I wouldn't advise doing it on the school run but there's nowt wrong with a joint every now and then.

Loads of houses near me are having renovations at the moment. There is a strong smell of weed coming from most of the building sites. I have no objection at all to people doing what they want to do in their own time, but it seems completely normalised now to go about your daily life under the influence.
