It’s never been opened - natural yogurt, smells ok - month out of date. AIBU to eat the bastard?

Ew thats fucking rank

MasterBeth · 02/11/2021 10:55

You're brave. A month? Yogurt?

But I like the sense of challenge. Taste it!

Dixiechickonhols · 02/11/2021 10:56

I wouldn’t and I’m pretty lax on dates. A couple of days and smells ok yes a month no. It’s not worth risk.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/11/2021 10:57

I wod risk it if it looks, smells and tastes normal. Yogurts last for ages.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/11/2021 10:58

Would

FuckyNel · 02/11/2021 10:59

Go for it!

BonnyandPoppy · 02/11/2021 10:59

I would. Yoghurts are fine unless they have gone mouldy

LennyMurdoch · 02/11/2021 11:00

I just don't even know why you would?

youngestisapsycho · 02/11/2021 11:00

I remember a thread on her a few years back about use by dates etc... a woman who was some kind of food scientist in a uni said that yogurts were fine to eat up to a month after the use by dates... if it smells and looks fine i'm sure it's OK.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/11/2021 11:00

So as not to waste food which is still safe and tasty.

FatCatThinCat · 02/11/2021 11:01

A few days, I would. A week, I'd consider but probably wouldn't. A month, no bloody way as I don't want to die.

Justcallmebebes · 02/11/2021 11:02

If it hasn't been opened, smells and looks fine then yes, I would and probably have

Finzi · 02/11/2021 11:03

I would if it smells ok. I used some creme fraiche that was more than a month out of date the other day. It hadn’t been opened, smelt OK, and wasn’t mouldy. It tasted fine and we’re all still alive!

CounsellorTroi · 02/11/2021 11:04

It’s probably fine.

picklemewalnuts · 02/11/2021 11:05

It's a fermented, live product. It should be fine. I often do. It's very obvious when it isn't.

tempchecked · 02/11/2021 11:06

Proper cultured yogurts are fine weeks out of date. I never look at the dates, just open and eat, always fine. I used a Greek Yogurt dated early October the other day for a smoothie. Was a big tub, used some and kept the rest.
Far too much food waste. Open, sniff, taste, eat. Yogurts are meant to be sour and have good bacteria for your gut. That yogurt you have OP will be fine if it is not growing hairs!
I'm very careful with fish and poultry.

AudTheDeepMinded · 02/11/2021 11:07

Give it a smell, if it smells ok it will be fine. Do PP really think that on midnight of a BBE date food immediately becomes deadly?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 02/11/2021 11:07

I would as long as it looked and smelled OK. The natural ones last for ages. It’s the fruit ones that noticeably decompose and the containers blow up. Not literally, usually…

Queenoftheashes · 02/11/2021 11:08

Yeah it’s fermented so I would unless it seems rotten. I had kefir ordered in bulk and it stayed weeks at room temp. Similarly my sourdough starter is old af but I still consume it regularly.

LennyMurdoch · 02/11/2021 11:08

I would happily waste the yoghurt. I don't fully understand the food waste thing though.

annawi · 02/11/2021 11:10

Go for it! I ate a Muller fruit corner yogurt at the weekend with a best before date of 27 May - it was fine as it had been in the fridge that whole time

Pigeonpocket · 02/11/2021 11:10

I would eat it if it doesn't have visible mould. Yoghurt is already off. It lasts ages after the dates.

LaBellina · 02/11/2021 11:11

Oh Lord, definitely not. And I’m very lax with expiration dates.

girlmom21 · 02/11/2021 11:12

Ew no way!

Grin that’s impressive even by my lax standards!
