To think this school uniform rule is silly

My Ds is 21 and the secondary school he went to was a strict school with strict uniform standards which I agreed with, however there was one rule which looking back I think is a bit silly. That is all pupils could only wear navy blue coats, if you came in to school wearing a black coat you were told you could not come in to school with the black coat the following day and it had to be navy blue. The reason of the insistence of the navy blue coat was that it would match the colour of the uniform which was navy blue.

AIBU to think this was silly?

@stonebrambleboy

Let it go OP.
After 6 years, certainly! Are people so desperate for something to worry about that they trawl through their history? I never liked my school shoes, back in the '60s and I was the only one whose gaberdine was shortened over 5 years! And don't mention the velour hats!!!

Yes that's a stupid rule, but then most uniform rules are. Sending kids to school in Shirts and toes like they're going tk the office is just ridiculous in my opinion. Really think uniforms need to be completely changed. The biggest change they should make is no branded clothing/shoes/bags. They have uniforms in our school but they aren't overly strict with it, but I really think branded clothing should be banned.

Isn't navy even harder to see in the dark than black. Seems like a good way to get kids run over if you ask me..

I remember velour hats ! And the straw boater in summer complete with white ankle socks which complimented my hairy white legs!!
Ahh happy days.

Yep it's really stupid.

Putting appearance over practicality or safety. Great lesson for kids!
