Drunk text after 12 years

The other night at gone 10pm I received a message on Instagram from an anonymous hobby account (think nature photography) asking why I hadn't accepted the follow request they sent some weeks prior as I know them. I replied that I didn't know who they were, given that the account had no identifying details.

They didn't want to tell me who they were at first and when I asked why joked incase it "blew up in their face" but sometimes wondered how I was doing and what I was up to.

Thinking it was somebody on a wind up, I said I wasn't going to be replying any further. They then identified themselves as my ex boyfriend, from 12 years ago when we were late teenagers (17/19)

I was surprised as I didn't think I'd ever hear from him again. We were friends after breaking up but then he vowed never to speak to me again after I began dating somebody he despised (with good reason in hindsight)

We chatted for 20 mins or so, told one another about our lives now and work etc and i said it was nice to be in touch, but then he went ghost. Silence.

WIBU to assume I was 'drunk text' given the time of night at the weekend, and that he probably woke up the next morning feeling quite silly or full of regret Grin

Daft twat had probably had an argument with his partner and thought he’d look up exes.

Or he’s either mortified or a dick pic will be winging it’s way to you soon.

I'm betting on option 1, how strange to contact somebody out of the blue after such a long time. Something definitely prompted it IMO!

I’m generally a very cynical person but that’s usually always the reason. An argument, or a break up and scouting out options.

It’s quite pathetic really and has happened to me twice in my life!

He was looking for a shag and went silent when he realised it wasn't happening.

Yeah I think you're both on the right track. He asked whether I still lived locally which I don't, so that must've scuppered him getting his hopes up.

It's a shame he had an ulterior motive as I would've happily reconnected as friends. Oh well. Men Confused
