Laura Kuenssberg part of the government?

Just listening to Radio 4. She’s talking about Brexit and rows with France.

Why does it sound like she’s part of the government? She speaks as if she’s one of them.

So unbelievably one sided.

Shouldn’t she be unbiased?

And Robert Peston these days. He’s worse.

CorrBlimeyGG · 01/11/2021 08:43

She's always been biased. Cummings admitted she had info and leaks ahead of everyone else. I'm genuinely surprised she's not been offered a job yet, although I guess she's already doing it.

user1471505494 · 01/11/2021 08:50

I would think she would be the last person they would want. Isn’t you due to be leaving the BBC soon

Bathtoy · 01/11/2021 08:54

Yes, she’s thoroughly Tory — and I remember at least one Brexit-related interview with Boris Johnson where it felt more like a chat between old friends with a distinct soft spot for one another than anything hard-hitting and journalistic.

Felldownabackdonhole · 01/11/2021 09:01

Isn’t she leaving. Worryingly they said that whoever replaced her had to have government approval. Why when we need someone who is going to pull the government up on their many shortcomings.

Ozanj · 01/11/2021 09:03

She comes from a typically Tory lineage. Just look at her family background. She’s clearly using family or social connections - nothing wrong with it but when you do then you can’t be an independant journalist without killing the golden goose. I hope the BBC got rid based on that.

Viviennemary · 01/11/2021 09:03

Se is such a total pain in the neck. Who exactly does she think she is. Way above herself.

Fraine · 01/11/2021 09:06

She was very biased during the whole Cummings visit to Barnard Castle fiasco, clearly on his side.

Lelliebellieboo · 01/11/2021 09:17

@Fraine

she had to be on his side. He was her direct source for almost everything she had reported for at least 6 months prior to all of that.

Cummings admitted that he used to leak information to her

Skysblue · 01/11/2021 09:38

Ugh the way she fawns over Boris - and he dotes on her - is gross to watch.

doublemonkey · 01/11/2021 09:39

She's a puppet. She should have been fired years ago.

Watchingyou2sleezes · 01/11/2021 10:12

Journalism in general is in an awful state at the moment.
She is just one of many awful high profile journalists plying their trade at the moment.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/11/2021 10:29

She's one of the worst in the industry. Relentlessly rushing to gush and support the tories regardless of what they say/do.

Sparklesocks · 01/11/2021 10:35

If she got a job as a Conservative spokesperson next I don’t think many people would be surprised

HarrietsChariot · 01/11/2021 11:06

I always feel she's biased against the government, same with most of the BBC. Sky are more neutral, at least in that for every pro-Tory there's a rabbid anti-Tory (the appalling Beth Rigby springs to mind).

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/11/2021 11:08

I hadn't heard that her replacement needed government approval. It was reported that one of the relevant Ministers said her replacement should be a Brexiteer.
Pyewackect · 01/11/2021 11:09

I must be watching the wrong BBC then !.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/11/2021 11:15

I think a lot of journo's are tories; it seems to be fit in line with their background. They went to all the same schools, same universities and mix in the same circles. Isn't Boris Johnson's son's godfather a journo for some Tory rag?

sst1234 · 01/11/2021 11:16

What leaks? What puppet? When you listen to her, she just states the obvious and bland statements made up of rhetorical question followed by ‘we just don’t know’, or ‘we’ll wait to find out’. Nothing much goes on with BBC political journalism nowadays, it’s just words and fillers.

Yusanaim · 01/11/2021 11:16

I agree, that was my view!

Brefugee · 01/11/2021 11:19

She'd be a lot better if she acknowledged that she is biased. After what Cummings confirmed it is beyond daft that the BBC kept her on as chief political editor.

junglejane66 · 01/11/2021 11:24

When Brexit was 'done' I thought we'd seen the last of her, oh well wishful thinking

lljkk · 01/11/2021 11:25

Cummings admitted she had info and leaks ahead of everyone else.

That's because he leaked to her. Confused

I don't find LK biased at all, much less Tory biased. She's reporting govt position not defending it. Ditto Katya Adler -- not a member of EU commission, just explaining their position.

I wonder if Andrew Neil was ever half-attacked as LK, given his Thatcherite credentials. Nick Robinson & Peter Allen = card-carrying Tories. John Humphries hosted flipping dinner parties with Tory ministers he'd mention what they told him over the dinner table if they seemed to contradict it on Today. But no, shrug all that off, let's go after the woman-- Laura K.

lljkk · 01/11/2021 11:28

While member of WH administration Steve Bannon was a rampant leaker and "off the record" source to every kind of journalist during Trump era. KA-Conway almost as much. SB & KAC reckoned that any publicity = good publicity so they talked as much to MSNBC as they did to Fox. Who the populists back-channel talk to has nothing to do with who they hope to get praise from.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/11/2021 11:30

Actually do you know who's more obsequious that LK, the royal correspondent I think Nicholas Witchell. He was behaving as though the Queen was an errant teen the other day when she'd been in / out of hospital.
