Just watched this with DD - wanted something scary. I remember this film when it first came out. It was a big deal.

Well, let's just say its of its time.

I quite liked that it wasn't graphic but it didn't really have much in the way of scares.

Going to try poltergeist, trying to scare DD isn't really working

Just watched La Lorena about 25% of the film was genuinely scary and I watch a lot of horror films and am usually not bothered.

Watched Gremlins that’s definitely of its time, it’s crap

Cuntness · 31/10/2021 11:17

The original? I watched it for the first time last week. Thought it was crap.

Original Halloween is crap, as are it's sequels. Poltergeist is alright but neither have aged well I don't think.

Sparklesocks · 31/10/2021 11:33

Halloween was one of the early big slasher/final girl stalked by unstoppable evil movies so was quite fresh at the time, but now those tropes have been used so many times since in subsequent films it might seem a bit tired or unoriginal through today’s eyes.

Nightmare on Elm Street has aged well in terms of scary I think.

Sparkles, you are right, we were just watching saying we'll, she's gonna definitely die, when is someone actually going to get murdered.

We are off to a Halloween fright night even this evening and I'm trying to get DD in the done. It's supposed to be really scary with people regularly needing to be lead out. I quite excited, not easily scared though so it had better be good

I've only watched two horror films in my life and Halloween was the first. It was 10 years before I could sleep in a house on my own after watching it.

wallowmall · 31/10/2021 16:52

i found it really scary but I always find suggestion more scary than gore. Having said that I've not watched it in yrs!

We watched The Shining last night. I haven't seen it. for years and it left me feeling really unsettled all evening. It reminded me that I'm sure I read that Kubrick treated Shelley Duvall pretty awfully during the filming and it really shows!
