To be sick of accidentally clicking on giant ads?

I'm almost ready to jack MN in. I've got about 10 browser windows open for the same bloody thing because I keep accidentally hitting it while scrolling because the ads are MASSIVE. I have no intention of booking a cruise ever, for the record. I don't mind ads per se, I get it, but every few posts right in the middle? Argh.

Is it just me?

No I get the same! It's so bloody annoying! Accidentally click them while scrolling down then my phone has a little freak out while it loads the stupid ads up. I don't want to go on a Caribbean cruise or get a Deliveroo thank you MN!

Cuntness · 30/10/2021 15:45

Yes 🙌🏻

idontlikealdi · 30/10/2021 15:45

Yep. Drives me mad.

If I scroll at the very edge of my phone I can miss them.

HemanOrSheRa · 30/10/2021 15:46

Same here. The great big ads mid page cause my phone to freeze up too.

purplemunkey · 30/10/2021 15:47

Agree. I don't mind ads in general, especially if it keeps the site free, but the big ones in the middle of threads are so annoying.

Also, I wear hearing aids that are connected to my iPhone. A few sites make my hearing aids start to have a life of their own - volume going up and down without me touching them - Mumsnet it one of them. It's all the video ads that cause it, the tech recognises there is audio on the page and it starts playing havoc with my aids, often crashing altogether.

Yes! The Deliveroo one seems particularly sensitive!

I usually find I do it every now and then but the Deliveroo one is just so frustrating!

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 30/10/2021 16:41

YANBU. Scrolling down a thread and suddenly a mid page video advert appears. Even if I dodge it like Indiana Jones, it'll start autoplaying and my careful consideration/snortlaughing will be interrupted by A WOMAN SHOUTING ABOUT PUSHCHAIRS AND WEANING KITS AND RECIPE KITS and there's no sodding way of turning it offfffffff

The ridiculous thing is that I DO click on some of the smaller adverts to boost revenue etc. but really bloody hate not having any choice about what's going to leap out at me. It's like playing space invaders trying to avoid clicking on the wrong thing.

purplemunkey · 30/10/2021 17:03

Thank you LadyMonica. It’s a real pain.

Bontanics · 30/10/2021 17:06

Get an adblocker. Don't even see them let alone click on them.

MsDastardley · 30/10/2021 17:10

Agree. The Stacey Dooley ad in the middle of the page is guaranteed to make me look at something else.

anniegun · 30/10/2021 17:19

Get Mumsnet premium if you dont like the ads

LittleDandelionClock · 30/10/2021 17:20

Get an ad blocker.

That doesn't work for an app.

I agree, feels like they've gotten much worse recently

FictionalCharacter · 30/10/2021 17:41

MN ads are exceptionally annoying!

saraclara · 30/10/2021 17:44

Yes. They're almost impossible to avoid when scrolling. Which presumably is the point. But Jeeeze, I hate that Mumsnet has allowed them.

Bontanics · 30/10/2021 17:46

I was suggesting it because op mentioned she was using a browser.

Ohhgreat · 30/10/2021 17:49

Argh yes! The Nespresso one pops up even if I expressly avoid clicking on it!

MoiraNotRuby · 30/10/2021 17:56

Yanbu, fucking Nestle coffee all the bastard time that I'll never buy in a million years. Tbh I don't bother as much with mumsnet because its such a pita.

I assumed they were broader windows from accidentally touching adds in the app!

Hopefully not derailed!

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 30/10/2021 18:09

Hate it

Same here. I’ve got an adblocker and it’s amazing. No ads anywhere. You can whitelist sites where you’re happy to see ads and some news sites want you to disable your adblocker.

I’ve used Adblock Plus for years and had no issue.

IHeartKingThistle · 30/10/2021 18:22

Yes sorry it is the app, wrong word!
