Levelling up

I thought that there was an excellent example of levelling up in the budget earlier in the week.

The reduction in air passenger duty for UK domestic flights.

This means that people from London and the South East will find it cheaper to fly to other parts of the UK, meaning they are more likely to buy second or thirds homes in those other areas, thus levelling up house prices.

Why not roll out super fast broadband to the regions more quickly and keep the air tax on short hauls. Then people can work remotely more easily and get houses in other parts of the country and even out house prices.

People in regional areas will have better internet and a wider range of jobs available.

The market must determine where superfast broadband is rolled out and how quickly.

... and leaving their sodding, neurotic outside lights on all night for no good reason except swank or stupid fear and no consideration for any other creature, which I will grant has nothing to do with the airport stuff but it's helped me to stop the steam from coming out of my ears this morning. (And another way of levelling up would be to outlaw percentage pay rises for 50 years and allow only flat rate increases, but that's another thread.)
