Holiday Rental in France

Zoeyclash · 29/10/2021 09:13

Sorry for using AIBU for traffic..... We're hoping to rent a house in France for a week or so next summer. I've been looking online but there are so so many rental websites that I don't know where to start. Could any of you please recommend a reputable website which I could use to find a holiday rental? Thanks so much all.

This isn't for AIBU

@starrynight87 no need for that-if you read the OP it clearly apologised for using AIBU for traffic🤦‍♀️

www.gites-de-france.com/en

This is a French stalwart, all rentals are inspected and meet the different criteria for their 2, 3 or 4 épi (star) ratings. Huge choice

Following for ideas, thanks

I used selectvillas summer 2020 and they were incredibly helpful!! The most beautiful gite In Provence!! And in previous years I have used chez nous which has a wide range, and have been reliable and successful! Good luck, so many gorgeous places to choose from...!!!

Brittany Ferries have lovely rentals on their books and you get discount on ferrie too.

@caringcarer I think that they've stopped - they used to be linked to Holiday France Direct (not sure if it was the same company) but they seem to have shut down :/

Holidaylettings have always been great for us. The problem is a lot of companies are actually all the same company now, so there is less choice out there. I think vrbo and ownerdirect are all the same company now. Chez nous used to be very good, but may also be part of the same big company.

Gites de France are a bit hit and miss. We have had some great bargain and lovely places with them - but also some very run down places. Their rating system is quite odd - high rating does not mean a great place imho! Also, many of the owners do not speak or write in English well, so if you have poor French yourself this can be a bit tricky. Having said that our best every holiday was through Gites de France. The owners were wonderful - between my basic O level French and their limited English we did manage to communicate, and we were invited over to their house for the best bbq ever. Lovely people - we still exchange Christmas cards.

Brittany Ferries I find to be expensive.

Airbnb

Thanks so much for your replies. This will be our first family holiday overseas so I'm excited to get cracking on the research! It's great to have a starting point.
