Not really an AIBU but posting for traffic as having a bit of a panic. I've just sent my UK passport off for renewal as need 6 months on my passport. Not off for 2 months but it says 6 weeks for renewal (but to allow 10!).

Turns out we need it before 6 weeks for visas etc. Eeek! Has anyone had a quick turnaround on their online passport renewal recently?

OR is there a way we can stop the online application to get an urgent turnaround? I've looked online and can't see a way but hoping one of your clever ladies may know better!

I ordered mine earlier in the year online, 2 took about 10 days, the 3rd one was about 3 weeks. Hopefully you'll be fine!

There is a website called something like passport renewal times where they track how long it has taken people recently - it has separate figures for renewals vs new passports and seems very up to date. My recent application was very much in line witj their estimate, and much shorter than 6 weeks. Good luck OP!

Thanks for your advice and the link. It's saying about 25 days so might be do-able. Aaargh - hate passport stress. Soooo annoyed with myself

Good luck OP. Hopefully you get it in time. Is there an urgent visa option if it’s delayed a bit?

If you use google calendar, I highly recommend setting both a 12 month and a 6 month reminder for bank cards, licence, insurances, passport expiry dates. I juggle a few different passports and ID cards and it’s super useful to be reminded that I need to start thinking about X renewal.

Of course, google calendar may be obsolete in 10 year when your new passport will next expire Grin

My online renewal took a month, it seemed a long process however once I got the message that all had been checked it was back within days

Goblina · 28/10/2021 09:14

I renewed mine online this year, new one arrived in 6 days.

listsandbudgets · 28/10/2021 09:28

I must have been really lucky as it was done in a week. MaKe sure you get your old passport sent back ASAP and preferably next day delivery as I don't think they'll do anything until its arrived.

listsandbudgets · 28/10/2021 09:31

Ps Where are the visas for? Some countries will do them same day if you visit their embassies or consulates but check before you go

Annabel7 · 28/10/2021 09:34

Thanks. Old ones were sent yesterday when I applied. I'm going to call the helpline also to see if I can fast track it once I've applied. 6 days would be great but will be stuffed if it takes 10 weeks.

And YY to reminders. I never thought I'd need to for passports but we haven't used them in 2 years now!

We did a fast track visit to Peterborough on Tuesday this week, passport arrived this morning, could you do that? cost more but it was worth it

I am very organised in my (professional) job, but this level of preparedness is something i can only aspire to!
