Rent somewhere else or wait?

Live in a studio with my partner. We pay £800 per month including bills and council tax, and it’s essentially a bedsit. We have no dining area, hardly anywhere to sit, can’t really invite people over for dinner etc. And no separate rooms.

We manage here, it’s not terrible, but it would be great to have a 1 or 2 bed flat.

We have started to view houses and flats to buy, and still in the process of saving the deposit.

We have been discussing whether it would be better to move to a larger rented property in the meantime, or just stay here until we are able to buy somewhere, even if that could be another year. What would you do ?

If you can cope, I'd stay put as it would be great to own your own home.

I think I would move to somewhere a little bit bigger unless it cost a huge amount more.

Move, without a doubt. We were in a similar situation last year, and moved to a 2 bed place in the spring. The extra space has made such a big difference to our lives. If you can afford to, do it!

We can likely get somewhere for the same price or slightly more expensive. Who knows how long it will actually take to find somewhere, have an offer accepted and complete the sale.

Move. You have no idea what will happen in the future and a year is a long time to wait!

If you can realistically be in a position to buy within a year, do that. Otherwise you’ll be paying higher rent and it will take you even longer to buy, and then you might be in a position of having to downsize.

I'd move esp if you can get a one bed for same price.

If you can get more room for only a minimal rent increase - do it! Unless it dramatically impacts on the time you can buy.

A year cna easily turn into 18minths or two years...
