When you are playing a boardgame/jigsaw/colouring and one of the pieces start talking and it's turns into role-play! Suddenly the jigsaw pieces are a family. Or the crayons are having their dinner.
I find structured play so much easier but DD can turn anything into role play!

As a child I remember my sister wouldn’t play chess with me unless we named all the pieces, drew maps of the warring countries and a family tree of their royal families, and made little crowns and cloaks for the pieces out of silver foil and bits of material. It was a lot of effort to go to for a chess game but I quite enjoyed it.

My kids are older now but they were never hugely into imaginative play, especially the older one, so I quite liked it when they made the losing white pieces break out of prison, storm the board, rescue the king and fly off on the chess board.

Ditto.

Well you've given us all a bit of a giggle at least OP.

But yes, my heart used to sink. It kind of still does when 9 yr old DD asks me if I'll watch a film with her and she chooses one that drives me nuts. And pauses is every 10 minutes to explain everything and so the film lasts twice as long

Same 🤣🤣

No advice, mine hasn't done that yet. Will be 3 in January BUT I love her imagination.

Used to drive me potty when mine would ask me to play play doh with them. I had to sit and watch them mush all the colors together but I wasn't allowed to touch it Hmm

I’m feeling this is a girl thing mainly? My boys will role play with each other but thankfully don’t drag me into it.

Anybody else been made to apologise to a twig that you've just stepped on because "it's hurt and upset now and the twig family won't know where it is 'cos it won't be able to hop home and it'll miss it's tea and it was it's favourite tea today"? Or would that just be me then?
