Masks at the Budget

45 replies

SiblingStruggle · 27/10/2021 12:50

The tories are all masked up for the first time in ages in the House of Commons for the Budget. I'm assuming it's some "soft messaging" to prepare us for Plan B to come in very shortly.

Just get on with it already!

Good.

Roominmyhouse · 27/10/2021 13:29

It said yesterday the commons asked all staff to wear masks moving forward but said they couldn’t force MP’s as they aren’t employed by them. I’m actually surprised they are but it’s probably only because they knew there would be uproar if they didn’t when all the staff have to. Not because they think it’s a good idea.

I’m not bothered if we have to go back to mask wearing out and about but it’s easier for people like me who don’t have to wear one all day at work.

Roominmyhouse · 27/10/2021 13:29

@Zandathepanda

Rees Mogg isn’t wearing one ‘cos he’s dead ard. The great British spirit will protect him.
He really is an utterly contemptible vile creature.
SiblingStruggle · 27/10/2021 13:31

@Roominmyhouse I can understand people not wanting to wear them all day. That being said, I've noticed that in most shops etc. the employees are still wearing them and the customers aren't. That would make me so cross if I worked there!

@Zandathepanda "Nanny" probably forgot to lay one out with his socks and y-fronts this morning

I suspect the health secretary has been made to see the absolute hypocrisy of holding a press conference advising people to wear masks when he has demonstrated his complete disdain for public health by not wearing one himself.

That’s exactly why I’ve still been wearing one in shops. I feel for the people who have no choice in being face to face with hundreds of people each day so I think the least I can do is wear a mask.

@Zandathepanda

Kier Starmer has tested positive and was in Westminster earlier before he knew so this will be interesting….
Makes you wonder why he was out and about before he got his test result
Littlescottiedog · 27/10/2021 13:43

@Bigballer

A few weeks ago my daughter tested positive for Covid and was poorly, could hardly get out of bed. Since I work nights I just slept in the bed next to her for a week whilst she was off school. Kissed and cuddled her since she was poorly. I did a test and I was negative. Don't see the point of wearing masks in public when two people sharing a bed don't transmit the virus. And I haven't been vaccinated either.
This is not an argument against masks! Just because you say you didn't get it from your daughter, doesn't mean the same for everyone else who comes into contact with someone who has it. What about people with weakened immune systems? Official shielding isn't a thing anymore. We have people at work who are either CEV or who live with someone who is but they can't shield because that means no job now. So they have to come in. Wearing a mask to potentially prevent them from catching Covidv is such a small thing to do.

And don't get me started on not being vaccinated (unless there is a medical reason why you can't be).

doublemonkey · 27/10/2021 13:54

They'll be masking up for a photo op, like politicians the world over have been doing since the start of the pandemic.

Jaxhog · 27/10/2021 13:57

@Mamamia7962

I can't understand why people aren't wearing masks anyway. We all know cases are on the rise but for some reason people don't seem to be able to make decisions for themselves. They need to be told by the Government what to do. Why?
Then when the government says you have to, that its a blow against their civil liberties! - The civil liberty to be an idiot!

Why is wearing a mask harder than driving at the speed limit? Beats me.

derxa · 27/10/2021 14:12

Why is wearing a mask harder than driving at the speed limit? Beats me. You're having a laugh. I wear a mask to go shopping but I can scarcely see a thing because of condensation. I had to take the cat to the vet yesterday. Again I couldn't see so I had to take my specs off.

True though

TBF I think even a virus would baulk at going anywhere near that twat.

If he was a close contact and tested he's under no obligation to isolate unless he had symptoms.

Aren't you supposed to isolate until you get a result? These rules are batshit!
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 27/10/2021 14:25

No. Rules changed. Only need to isolate if you're testing because of symptoms.

bigballer you do realise that sounds like 'well I downed a bottle of vodka before going for a drive and didn't kill anyone so I don't see the point in everyone else not doing the same'.
HikingforScenery · 27/10/2021 14:40

I think it’s in response to the criticism they’ve received from the general public
