A good news story for a change !

I realised money was being taken out of my account from an old standing order . Agreement had been until services resumed ( Covid related) , money would be refunded each time. Only unbeknown to me the refunding just stopped.
Contact details by Mobile number also changed without notification. Tracked them down on a national website .

Used all the learning I had gained on Mumsnet to argue my case , included screenshots of the agreement and threatened to take them to the Smsll Claims Court if they didn’t refund what they owed me .

Within about 5 minutes all money owed - just over £200 refunded . Arrangement now cancelled .

So thanks Mumsnet for teaching me assertiveness!

Was it a standing order or direct debit? If it was a standing order you were fully in control so should have just cancelled it instead of allowing them to keep refunding each time. If it was a direct debit you could have recalled it through your bank. Just some advice for any future occurances!

It was a standing order. They asked me not to cancel but do it that way . My mistake in agreeing. I did think I had cancelled it several months ago . Obviously not and probably said wrong thing to bank when we went through direct debits only .

Not to worry in future definitely just cancel as there's no guarantees etc with a standing order as its controlled by you. Seemed an odd set up by them but maybe they did it hoping they could keep some money and some people might not notice. Very naughty.
