The first thought I had when I saw this was that Mumsnetters can relate Grin

Shameless AIBU posting because it's where all the 'I never answer the phone/door/court summons unless it's expected' comments appear

Not answering the phone

I mean... not answering an unknown number when you're safe in your suburban semi can't quite be equated with this situation. Can it?

WomanStanleyWoman · 26/10/2021 07:53

Haha Grin

To be fair, there is a lot of advice out there about ignoring calls from unknown numbers… but I’d like to think common sense might kick in if you’re lost in the wilderness.

sbhydrogen · 26/10/2021 07:57

I'm struggling to write a response. I keep starting and then deleting my message 🤣

backtolifebacktoreality · 26/10/2021 08:16

That would be my husband!

He hates talking on the phone and also won't admit he's lost or ask directions! 😜

It's the joke of it! The fact that some people actually hate answering the phone so much that they'd do this 😂

I hate talking on the phone but because it takes away from my time so I actively ignore calls sometimes from people that I know will talk my ear off if I haven't got the mental space for it. But I answer other calls, they're usually quick ones!

"A missing man in Turkey accidentally joined his own search party for hours before realising he was the person they were looking for, local media reports. Beyhan Mutlu had been drinking with friends on Tuesday when he wandered into a forest in Bursa province. When he failed to return, his wife and friends alerted local authorities and a search party was sent out. Mr Mutlu, 50, then stumbled across the search party and decided to join them, NTV reported.

But when members of the search party began calling out his name, he replied: "I am here.""

GodspeedJune · 26/10/2021 13:34

That has really tickled me Vajingle

‘I am here’ Grin

NotMyCat · 26/10/2021 13:36

I answer the door but not the phone Grin
After 200 calls a day at work, text works just fine thanks!

LittleDandelionClock · 26/10/2021 13:42

@vajingleberry LOL that's a good one too! Grin

Laiste · 26/10/2021 14:02

Weeeeell - you could argue that perhaps he was trying to save battery? So didn't want to be answering scam calls?

CreepySpider · 26/10/2021 14:05

I don’t answer to unknown calls unless it’s when my children are in holiday clubs etc, so there could be a reason for it. However, I’d make an exception if I was lost! Grin

Did he know he was lost? Or were his relatives just adamant he couldn't possibly be trying to have 5 minutes without them?

Cos I can definitely relate...

HuhWhatNow · 26/10/2021 19:53

I don't understand these people. Same goes for non-answers of doors.

I was once asked to drop something off at neighbour's house that she needed that night. I was on my way home and her dad bumped in to me and to save time, asked that I drop it round on my way. No problem.

Except she's one of these oddities we only usually see on MN who won't answer a door.

So I took it back to her dad and she missed doing what she needed it for. Oh well.

I hope these people don't have cats that have been injured, or sheds that are on fire or they would never know. Same goes for non-answered to unknown numbers. I hope their important appointments don't get changed etc.

Did she really have to answer the door for that? Surely you could have just left it outside her front door.

Boood · 26/10/2021 20:42

Why didn’t the rescue party text him when he didn’t answer? “Hello we’re concerned for your safety please let us know you’re ok or call us back for help”? Is that just too logical?

I have a phobia about speaking on the phone. I hate using it at work. I love texting! Being able to book restaurants online is amazing.

HuhWhatNow · 27/10/2021 21:44

@Anonymous48 I could have left it but it's a door that opens directly on to a busy street. It was an expensive item and would have been there a very short time before someone simply walked away with it.
