Driving licence confusion

Cantcook842 · 25/10/2021 10:58

Sorry if this is wrong board. Can anyone clarify as don't seem to be able to work it out!
Tried to renew licence online as due to expire and needs new photo. Couldn't do it online because my passport that they would use to copy the photo and signature over from is in my maiden name. Driving licence is in married name. So says I need to send application form in by post.
I'm doing it now and they are asking for passport number still.

Ia this going to work because they don't match? It's not asking for any other proof as id already sent them my marriage certificate to change my name on my licence

Yes they will be able to check it. You are looking about 12 weeks to get it back though. They are a nightmare.

Cantcook842 · 25/10/2021 12:11

I can still drive without it though can't I?

I posted mine off end of Aug and still waiting for it to come back. DVLA has an insane backlog. There's info online about when you can/can't drive. As long as its just a renewal and you've submitted it to them they can drive. There's also a bit online where you can see what date applications they are currently processing to give you some idea of the delay.

I've just checked under the section 'to renew a driving licence with new photo' says they're processing those r'd on 9th Aug

Photocopy or photograph both sides of your driving licence before sending off

For your records

Just in case

Jeds55 · 25/10/2021 13:05

As per PP I took photos of everything I was sending to them (had to send birth certificate, P60, old licence, postal order etc as passport expired)

HerGrapeness · 25/10/2021 13:17

I'd suggest, if you can, to just go to your nearest post office who does driving license renewals - I did mine in August and it took literally five minutes in the Post Office (they just scanned my renewal notice and took a digital photo) and my license was back within two weeks (maybe even a week). They take your current license from you and give you a receipt to show to anyone who asks for a copy in the interim.

idontlikealdi · 25/10/2021 13:18

I got mine back within a week at the beginning of October!

@idontlikealdi

Me too! @jeds55 perhaps you need to chase yourself up?
Sparkai · 25/10/2021 13:19

Sorry, that should say yours. Stupid autocorrect

muddyford · 25/10/2021 13:24

I agree with a PP who said to go your nearest post office that does renewals. I filled in the paper form, took it in, they took the photo, scanned in the form and I had my licence back within a week.

Jeds55 · 25/10/2021 13:26

@Sparkai @idontlikealdi was that for a paper application? Partner did his online and had it back within few days.
I thought about chasing but once I saw the online info about processing dates (and dependent on type of application) thought I'd leave it until its passed that date. Be interesting to know if yours were photo renewals and paper apps. Thanks

I'll also vouch for the post office way, I had to go in as my passport expired s couple of years ago and don't plan to renew just yet. Ten minutes in the PO and my licence back about a week, maybe 10 days later.

PheasantsNest · 25/10/2021 13:48

@idontlikealdi and @Sparkai there is no way you would have got them back if it was a paper application in a week.
