RandomDent · 24/10/2021 12:34

Yes! Although The Wombles one is better.

StCharlotte · 24/10/2021 12:35

Ha ha! Yes!

That's an incredibly old school Abba song isn't it?

Pythonista · 24/10/2021 12:35

Oh this has cheered up my morning Grin

SirChenjins · 24/10/2021 12:38

A bit (and I remember Wombling Christmas from the first time round - fuuuuuck, I’m so old) - but I really like the Abba one!

thegcatsmother · 24/10/2021 12:38

From what I read yesterday, this is an old song that wasn't used at the time it was recorded, but has been released to generate interest in advance of the new stuff.

YouJustFoldItIn · 24/10/2021 12:40

thegcatsmother Yes there is a video on youtube comparing the 1970s version of the song to the current one. I didn't know that and have never heard it before now. Maybe Mike Batt plagiarised the original Abba song then, rather than the other way around. Grin

Ooh I was right then!

takes a bow

LittleDandelionClock · 24/10/2021 12:48

Hmmm I'm not really hearing it sorry. I mean, it has a similar beat to it, but it doesn't sound like 'Wombling Merry Christmas' to me.

Sorry @YouJustFoldItIn

Also, I didn't think Blurred Lines sounded anything like 'got to give it up' by Marvin Gaye.

But the judge did and ordered Robin Thicke to pay 7 million dollars to the Gaye family for plagiarism!

It's all subjective.

YouJustFoldItIn · 24/10/2021 12:53

Little I imagine there is some sort of technical test they run looking at the sheet music side by side, the chords and key changes etc, and running the tracks one over the other so the overlap in different places to see how technically similar the music is.

The more songs that are written I guess the easier it is to do it unwittingly - either subconsciously or completely genuinely unwittingly. It's not beyond possibility that two people can come up with an almost identical creative idea.

Right, I'm sueing.

SpindelWhorl · 24/10/2021 12:59

'All Sit Down' by James sounds like Mike Batt's 'Summertime City' in parts but Batt definitely came first that time!

Rivergypsyy · 24/10/2021 13:02

It does😂

flippertyop · 24/10/2021 13:04

I just want to say thank you for posting the Wimbledon

flippertyop · 24/10/2021 13:05

Wombles

AmyDudley · 24/10/2021 13:13

It does a bit - the Wombles would approve - they were all about recycling.

YouJustFoldItIn · 24/10/2021 13:48

Just listened to the Marvin Gaye song compared to Blurred Lines. His vocal is nothing like it but the intro and the general background beat is almost identical.
