AIBU to want to park in my garage

Poppets14 · 22/10/2021 19:12

My garage is on a corner so if my neighbour parks out side her garage - it blocks mine.
The parking round the back of mine is horrendous so I want to start using my garage to park my car.
If I do this this means that my neighbour can’t park outside hers as she’ll be blocking it- and possibly the neighbour next to her won’t be able to park outside her garage as it won’t give us enough space to get into our garage.

It’ll mean they’ll have to find somewhere else to park or park in their own garages.

Do I have a legal right to have access in and out of my garage?

I’ll probably ruffle a few feathers but the neighbours are so inconsiderate when it comes to parking

Is your garage straight onto a public road?
I can't quite envisage the set up.

Cuntness · 22/10/2021 19:14

Diagram.

skyblueone · 22/10/2021 19:15

Well surely if you own a garage you have a right to actually get in to it? Sounds like it's badly laid out.

bluebeck · 22/10/2021 19:17

Sorry I can't quite see the diagram Grin

AspCommie · 22/10/2021 19:17

Diagram ffs!

Didicat · 22/10/2021 19:19

What everyone else said…. Need a diagram

SapphosRock · 22/10/2021 19:21

Can your neighbours not park in their garages rather than outside them? You are obviously well within your rights to use your garage, how long have you lived there and not used it? Don’t worry about ruffling feathers, use your garage.

Chasingsquirrels · 22/10/2021 19:24

Does your garage door "look onto" the neighbours car?
Who owns the land in front of the garages?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 22/10/2021 19:25

Do they have 2 cars or just can't be arsed using their own garage?

They shouldn't be blocking your access. Is it not clearly marked?

oviraptor21 · 22/10/2021 19:26

Sorry OP. You need to get the scale on your diagram a bit better. The lane can't be narrower than the cars surely. And where do you usually park your car?

Poppets14 · 22/10/2021 19:26

Yes our garage looks onto the neighbours cars
The land in front of the garage is a car park- no idea who actually owns it?

OP posts:
Poppets14 · 22/10/2021 19:28

It’s a very narrow lane- sorry it’s not to scale
The path is just out side our back gates

OP posts:
oviraptor21 · 22/10/2021 19:28

What is the land that the others are parking on?

WutheredOut · 22/10/2021 19:28

Was it all built at the same time, new build? Or has the layout been like that forever.
You should be able to park but not if you built your garage in a ludicrous position.

Poppets14 · 22/10/2021 19:29

It’s not a lane sorry it’s just a little narrow ally way - a wider than a wheely bin-just to give people access from their back gardens to the back

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/10/2021 19:30

That’s a ridiculous design.

You and your neighbour could not drive out of your garages at the same time.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 22/10/2021 19:30

Use your garage and knock whenever you need to park in your garage.
If they park in their garages then nobody has a problem. If they don't want to then they'll just need to keep moving because it is entirely reasonable to want to park your car in your garage.

Poppets14 · 22/10/2021 19:30

70s build been like it forever

It’s just a random communal space- some spaces available for parking where there’s a fence or a wall

bluebeck · 22/10/2021 19:31

Your neighbours have got used to parking outside their garages I guess but they are blocking you from being able to use yours so they will have to stop.

There is room for everyone if you all park in your actual garages.

Good luck sorting it out!

forrestgreen · 22/10/2021 19:31

Could you change the access for your garage?? As in put the door at the top end, sadly ££
