Constant arousal during ovulation - distressed and getting worried what the fuck is wrong?

I have always suffered with cramps when ovulating. Have also always noticed my sex drive goes up around this time, all normal. Never worried about it before.

But since last night I have a really uncomfortable abdomen with bad cramping and fullness and it feels like something is actually wrong with me - physically I'm constantly aroused. It won't go away and I'm starting to find it distressing. I should point out that I absolutely don't want any kind of penetrative sex as I have vaginismus and when period pain comes along, can't use tampons as it's too painful. I'm just in a state of discomfort that won't ease.

Has anyone experienced the likes of this before? I possibly have endometriosis so could it be something to do with that? Or could it be to do with peri menopause? I'm 36 so feels early.

I'm just worried something awful is really wrong eg something badly wrong with pelvic nerves.

Google is saying it could be sign of a stroke Shock I know it's only google but I'm already at risk for stroke due to medical history...fuck.

Could it be to do with a tense pelvic floor? Working out the core and PF etc for example, can trigger feelings of arousal which are actually just linked to everything contracting. If you're experiencing tense feelings in that area generally - even though it's created by pain - could that be the cause?

I’m sorry I can’t offer any advice, but I wanted to bump this in case anyone else has experience of similar.

I remember reading about vaginal atrophy (as part of peri/menopause) shrinking the clitoral hood which could result in unwanted arousal, but this doesn’t sound like what you’re describing.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Hmm I have a similar problem with feeling very aroused at certain, very predictable times of the month. I've never spoken to anyone about it, I'm a bit of a prude when it comes to talking about sex Confused.

I've always assumed it's due to hormones? But since I've never found the courage to actually mention it to a HCP I don't know!

Animood · 22/10/2021 20:02

I'm always more horny when ovulating and I assumed it was normal and a natural part of reproduction.

It makes sense to be horny when you have the best chance of being pregnant right?

Re the pain/ fullness, I don't think that's normal, and I'd go and see a GP.

bobisbored · 22/10/2021 20:05

I have this too! It lasts around a week. I convince myself I have something wrong with me every month and then it goes and I'm ok again. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sorry to be tmi, but have you tried having an orgasm?

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 22/10/2021 20:13

Do you have a vibrator? You might just need to release that energy!

Thank you, this actually makes a lot of sense, as I do have a (sometimes very painfully) tense pelvic floor - so maybe the muscle tension from the cramping is doing it? Sort of like a weird unsettling by product.

Thank you, yeah it was vaguely knowing that peri & menopause which made me wonder if it was something connected to this.

I was going to say the same tbh, I've felt like that a few times in my life and that's what fixed it.
Rno3gfr · 22/10/2021 20:17

Persistent genital arousal syndrome?

That's the thing - without wishing to be indelicate, I climaxed quite a few times last night, when I was mentally enthusiastic and wanted it. Which would be pretty normal for ovulation time for me. But it's not calmed down. Now I don't mentally want any more, but physically things are still 'engaged'.

I'm just trying to go about my day and everything feels uncomfortable. Both from pain/ cramping, and from the strange persistent arousal that won't just fuck off Sad

Maybe it's unnerving because it's as though the body and the mind are out of sync.

Probably need to have more sex to release muscle tension

DixonD · 22/10/2021 21:53

It’s normal for that time of the month. Completely natural, biological function. I wouldn’t worry unless it doesn’t subside in the next few days over ovulation.

I have this every month as well and there have been times it’s really stressed me out.

Coffeeisnecessary · 22/10/2021 22:45

I get the feeling of fullness or swollen feeling during ovulation, it's so painful that I find sitting down difficult. I've been to the doctors so many times as I don't understand how that kind of pain is normal but they always dismiss it.
