Conflicted between 2 job offers

Hi Everyone,
This is my first time posting but I lurk here often. I’m posting here for people’s viewpoints.
I’ve been working in a public sector role (3 year contract) for 2.5 years. Job has been very stressful and shit really. I’ve been actively looking for a new role for over a year. Got offered a new job 2 weeks ago at same grade (pay) level but permanent contract so very secure. The job itself sounds so pleasant and will have better work life balance I think. I’m sole earner in our home and I have 2 young children who I feel I don’t see enough so happy with this outcome.
Yesterday I am offered another public sector job. It’s a 3 year contract but grade higher. I think looks like more stress and work but potentially career wise better future prospects. I’m truly unsure which to choose. I know I’m fortunate to have been offered 2 roles but I’m stressing trying to decide which is better for me and my family! I would appreciate what people think. Which would u choose? Thank u.

The first job sounds like you would have a better work life balance and more time for your family. As it is the same grade you are not losing out. The second job sounds much more stressful and also temporary so you will be looking for another job before long. The first job could lead to a promotion in the future. You asked what we would choose- I would choose the first job!

Thanks Polly. I think the same myself.

I’d go for the first job, giving you some long-term security. Often being permanently employed means that you can apply for internally advertised jobs which may give you more choice in the future.

I would go for the less stressful permanent role.

I’d go for the higher grade post, possibly. Really depends what area it is, if those opportunities arise frequently, working hours etc. I’ve often found lower grades more stressful than higher grades, having to stay late, rota’s etc.

If the salary grade doesn't leave you struggling, I'd go for the first job which you describe as pleasant, to feel the difference from the current shit.
