Dry Cough

I have cough variant asthma which is barely controlled with medication. It lasts weeks and the only way I get any sleep is with abusing alcohol. I hate it and wish there was an alternative, but it’s painful and exhausting.

DH throws away my alcohol when I do this, but other than this, I’m pretty much tee totals.

I hate this cough and alcohol being the only way to sleep, but hate that I’m made to feel like an alcoholic.

Oh that sounds awful.

I get post viral cough that can last 4-6 weeks after every single fucking cold, following a bad flu plus bronchitis years ago. I don't think people / GPs understand how awful and exhausting cough can be ("it will clear on its own" ). I'm not ashamed to say that if alcohol worked for me I would use it Sad

What does your doctor suggest?

I use a symbicort inhaler daily, and very occasionally steroids that don’t work. I think oral codeine briefly worked.

But it’s the ‘it’s just a cough’ from a dr I hate.

I don’t drink but alcohol abuse is the only way to get a relief from the cough, wish DH would understand.
