Are forums used by others to glean information for whatever purpose. I do wonder sometimes, click bait can be obvious but not always in my case

Yes - the news is made up of TikTok videos, Reddit posts, Mumsnet posts and Facebook group posts.

‘Mum updates kitchen for £20’ will be from DIY on a budget Facebook group, for example.

Don't follow tik tok, Reddit. See it on FB though.

I see threads on here original post is not followed up by OP it can be twenty pages in. Not sure how you extrapolate that data accurately.

Some of the threads have a whiff of government about them testing the waters rather like a Mori poll

Of course. It's been like that for years.

One of my favourite posts on here was where a journo was told to create a thread by their boss.

Except they copy and pasted the entire instruction including the bit that said “make a thread on Mumsnet about this will you….”

Terribleluck · 21/10/2021 13:58

It's not data per se, it's content. There's software that searches for them given certain keywords, well Google can do it as long as you know boolean logic

BarbaraofSeville · 21/10/2021 14:23

Yes, it's certainly not data. In fact it's an excellent illustration as to how to do an extremely poor survey that yields really poor quality data.

But is obviously used for content.
