Posting for traffic..

My boyfriend ordered a macbook pro for my birthday, I have never had any apple products before. I set it up and used it for one day, I don't like it/can't get used to it at all after spending 15 years using windows.

I signed out of everything (itunes/mail etc) and reset it as I have decided to send it back to apple, they are coming for it tomorrow.

It just turned back on and just had a spinning globe with a box asking me to sign into wifi, now it just has a black screen with the words 'support dot apple dot com / mac /startup -2003

If I turn it off it just goes back to the globe when it comes back on and seems stuck in a loop.

Does anyone have any idea what to do?

You used it once and gave up? Really? Ok.
Call Apple support, it's free and they will help you pretty much immediately.

Bizarre that you put no effort into learning but here you go www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/wont-turn-on-boot-3423817/

Not bizarre, I can't stand Apple products either and choose not to use them. Perfectly reasonable. Why is OP obliged to learn a new OS because she received a gift?

LIZS · 21/10/2021 10:25

And apple are not obliged to take it back because you don't like it.

Okay then a boyfriend who doesn't know their partner very well haha! Grin

Well it’s hardly difficult and they are excellent products, someone went to a lot of effort and spent a lot of money on her, personally I’d have persevered for a little longer.

I didn't ask for a macbook, I'm happy with the phone I have and the desktop pc I have. I had no idea bf was planning to get it for me, it was literally out of the blue. I have never shown an interest in having one or told him I would like one etc. It arrived yesterday morning and I used it up until this afternoon, Unfortunately I just don't like it, I'm just used to what I have always had.

I did try to look online for a solution but I'm not very technical and wanted to be sure I wasn't doing the wrong thing.

Ended up calling apple who talked me through reinstalling big sur, Seems to be doing it fine now.

Thanks.

@Bluntness100 Apple lost me forever when I had a brand new iPhone 3G and two weeks after purchase, they deliberately slowed it down with an update so I couldn't use it. I was able to return it.

We all know now that they did it for years, on purpose, to make us all pay for the new models. So no. Screw Apple.

Wish someone would buy me a macbook for my birthday. I'll be lucky to get some bath salts 😢

brittleheadgirl · 21/10/2021 11:23

Madness!!
I can't imagine swapping a mac book for a pc 😳
I have a mac at home but use a regular laptop at work and despite them being new and not exactly cheap they are so clunky, problematic and frankly crappy.

AdobeWanKenobi · 21/10/2021 11:24

Ah OP, it takes a little getting used to, persevere with it.

I needed a Mac when I started my degree but still spent the best part of a month flitting between my windows laptop and my MacBook before I finally went fully over to the dark side Grin
