Clothes are always too short for me!!

I'm a 5 foot 7 female, not overly tall. But I'm finding more and more I have to buy tops, jumpers etc from the tall section or but things that designed longline... or the next size up which doesn't always make much difference. Don't have the same prob with jeans. Regular jeans can be a bit long so I assume I have a long torso... things that are meant to be longline are just normal on me. I like clothes to cover my tummy after 2 kids! Or I put a longline vest under the shorter things but still paranoid of my tummy.

But never had a problem with clothes being too short until more recently... are things just made shorter or more cropped than they used to be?!

At my wits end finding clothes tbh!

im a 6ft woman with size J/K boobs

im not "really big" im a 20 bottom(36 leg though)but need a 28-30 top but they are way to big at the shoulders, waist and armpits

ive given up and wear mens tshirts now way more comfortable .

what ive seen lately all girl or woman clothes have gone cropped

ovenered · 20/10/2021 16:55

There are a lot of cropped things in the shops now. Do high waisted trousers work on you? That's the look a lot of people go for and it bridges the potential gap.

TheGoogleMum · 20/10/2021 16:57

I'm really short (under 5') but hate short tops as I'd rather not have my overweight tummy on show! I think a lot of tops are cut a bit short even for me

It's so frustrating. I'm an 18-20, 18 in jeans but need to size up in tops to be long enough... I don't have big boobs though so always too big around them... only a b cup. I think I am out of proportion 😅

I always wear high waisted jeans but I still prefer tops to cover my tummy area and usually have to wear a long line vest underneath!

Long tall Sally could be good for you.

MintJulia · 20/10/2021 17:08

I'm slightly taller than you and spend a lot of time letting down hems and adjusting tops to ensure the waist is in the right place. It's depressing but it's the only way.

I wish I had the skills to do this. I'm rubbish at anything like that 😅

I'm 6"1 and it is a nightmare!! Sleeves / legs / bodies of tops have been getting shorter in the normal shops slowly over the last few years - I think to keep things cheap (less material used!). I love that oversized sweatshirts are currently in fashion, I basically live in mine.

Other than that - ASOS do a good tall range, and I find H and M good (high street wise!).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/10/2021 17:15

The length is often a problem for me, and I’m only 5’6”! Size 14.

I’m long waisted though, and it’s more about proportions than height. I look for longline tops - M&S and Boden both have these. With trousers I need them to be shorter than most on sale - though I’m confused as to when 32” leg became the standard for women.

bunnytheegghunter · 20/10/2021 17:15

I have exactly the same problem everything is too short on the body! I lived in leggings and skater dresses for ages as I could never find tops to go with jeans that didn't sit at my waist. I don't know the answer but I wish they would stop with short tops!

LadyJaye · 20/10/2021 17:16

I completely agree.

I'm 5'8", so not enormously tall, but I do have long arms and legs, so jumpers/shirts/tops etc are useless: if the sleeve is the right length, the torso is too long, if the torso is the right length, the sleeve is somewhere around my elbow.

I can mostly get round trousers by buying long lengths (I have a 33" inside leg), but because I'm not especially tall, 'tall' tops are of the wrong proportions.

I'm just going to have to win the lotto and start getting all my clothes made M2M...

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/10/2021 17:17

High waisted trousers don’t work at all for me - I’ve got quite a round tummy (PCOS and slowing metabolism in peri menopause partially to blame!) and also a long rise.

Juniper68 · 31/10/2021 17:26

I'm long bodied and actually thinking of starting making my own tops. My sister has a sewing machine she doesn't use. I may even have a little sideline if they turn out ok and sell a few?

What sort of tops do you all struggle getting to fit properly?

IJoinedJustForThisThread · 31/10/2021 17:28

Try Yours - I always find that their tops are far too long for me and I’m 5’ 7”

Rubyupbeat · 31/10/2021 17:32

I'm 6ft and 34" leg, lts Jean's were always a perfect fit, also 'yours' tops are rather long in the body. Tbh, I make an awful lot of my clothes, including jackets and coats, so problem solved my end.

TwoStepsOnWater · 31/10/2021 17:50

I’m 5’ 10” with a long body and it’s a real pain trying to find tops. I’m also pear shaped, so the bottom half of me is a size bigger than the top. Everything is either “cropped” and “boxy” and too short, or “tunic” and “swing” style so ridiculously long and tight below the waist. I just want slightly longer normal tops! Not a crop top or a circus tent.

carolinesbaby · 31/10/2021 20:16

At 6 foot and a size 14-16 everything is too short.
Long Tall Sally has been bought out by Very and is now rubbish. Just cheap tat.
