To wonder what it will take for police to do something about neighbours illegal activities?

They grow and sell weed. I have reported them twice through Crimestoppers many months ago but nothing has happened.

What will it take for police to do something about it?

Did you make an anonymous report? Intelligence has less weight if it’s anonymous so it’ll be way down the list for action, especially if yours is the only report.

Maybe actually report it to the police?

Phone them and say you've witnessed them dealing - if you have.

what will it take? a phone call or pop in to your local police station, would be far far better than contacting crimestoppers

Is there no way to do that anonymously? I'm terrified of them finding out that it's me.

@connelly yeah I believe you can do it on the online service anonymously. You can definitely call them and decline to give your details.

Thatsplentyjack · 20/10/2021 14:08

Probably more than them growing and selling weed tbh. Even if the are caught, they won't care.

Theunamedcat · 20/10/2021 14:08

Honestly they won't do a thing my neighbours do it have done for years everyone has reported then the police and fire brigade have seen him smoking it when he set fire to his garden he was chatting to them smoking weed they told him to ease up on the spliff and he might not let the fire get out of control next time they just don't care in the grand scheme of things he is "harmless" apparently

There has to be enough genuine intelligence for the police to get a warrant from the courts to then enter the premises. One or two anonymous reports isn't going to cut it for the courts. Are you providing times/dates/vehicle registrations/quantities? How do you KNOW they are growing and selling weed? A warrant is a huge infringement on liberties and the court wants to be satisfied there will be a likelihood of a decent result.

It's petty crime these days. They have bigger things going on and stretched resources won't really see this as anything near priority level

KingsleyShacklebolt · 20/10/2021 14:33

They won't do anything.

The final straw at our previous address was a house down the street being raided by Police, complete with battering rams and sniffer dogs. A "marketable quantity" of class A drugs was recovered, along with stolen property like mobile phones, and lots of cash.

Two adults in the property, each blamed the other. No charges. Next day they were back to dealing.

I suppose it could also be a business from home which could breach planning law eg are they tenants or owners? You could pay for a £3 online land registry search to check. If they are owners you cannot report to their landlord but could report them to the council planning service for a business use of the property.

Also if you make it pretty public eg photos all over a local facebook or twitter feed for your area, local newspaper involved etc then the police might feel they have to do something about it. May be report it your MP too.

Finfintytint · 20/10/2021 16:23

Xenia, I think any breach of business use relates to lawful businesses only but I like your thinking Grin
