Car insurance- so confused and cross!

Any one know anything about car insurance?

I am just about to sell my car and tried to part exchange it but it comes up as a Category N! I have never been told it’s a write off and when someone bumped the side in 2019 they were at fault and it was all repairs through the insurance companies. No mention of being a non-structural write off! I have had the car from new.

Has someone just ticked the wrong box? Surely they should tell me or there be a procedure? They are looking into it for me but everything I’ve read says you can’t change it but what about if it’s an incorrect classification? It literally wipes 50% off the value of the car?

Anyone know anything about this sort of thing?

It's the insurance company that tells DVLA the vehicle was written off, but if they repaired it that seems unlikely. In write off cases where the car isn't only fit for salvage, they normally offer a payment in lieu and let the owner sort the car out themseves.

I'd go back to your insurers and ask what's going on. Sounds as though it could be an administrative mistake.

So i would run a hpi check to get the details of when it was catogrised - if your insurance company did place a cat on it it has to remain. If you purchased second hand it may have already had a category on it?

It will also depend on whether your vehicle was a total loss but you refused to be paid out and demanded it was repaired?

Yes its easily removed from the database and will show clear in about 3 working days.
