How can I teach our cat to go to the toilet outside?
We have acquired my Grandmas cat (as my Gran died in March). We had a 12 month old cat already and my Grans cat was quite hissy for a while, which is understandable, she had been without her owner for a few weeks, then she got relocated to our house with another cat, 1 dog, 3 small children so in terms of adapting she has done amazing well. She will come and sit on your knee now and likes to play and be stroked but can still be a bit hissy sometimes.
Our cat will chase her if they come across each other so I got Feliway but it didn't really seem to do anything.
My main issue is that I want her to use the cat flap. If I put her outside via the door or the cat flap she comes back in through the flap (so she knows how to use it and my Gran had a cat flap too) but she won't go out unless you put her out so we are now stuck with a litter try.
The cat is 10 years old and clearly agile enough to use the cat flap so how can I persuade her to use it? I thought it was maybe like a puppy and you keep edging it towards the door/flap but she won't use it then.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated. We have tried cat litter different types, soil (she def didn't like that !)
