Halloween presents

RosieLemonade · 19/10/2021 12:35

I have got DD a costume and some baking bits. I was planning to pick up some Halloween craft bits too. I've also got her a new ghost book. She is 4.

A few people have posted on instagram (some I know in real life and some I just follow) about halloween presents and Halloween gift baskets. Is this a real thing?

Not in my world

OldScrappyAndHungry · 19/10/2021 12:36

Nope and please let it not become one either.

More pointless tat our kids don’t need Hmm.

Thesearmsofmine · 19/10/2021 12:37

No

gwenneh · 19/10/2021 12:38

No, it's not.

999caffeineplease · 19/10/2021 12:38

Hallowe'en gifts aren't a thing.

Yet another example of consumerism taking over.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/10/2021 12:38

It is really really not a thing and the more we make this stuff “a thing” along with other bits of useless disposable crap such as Christmas Eve boxes, Christmas pyjamas, balloon arches etc etc that are mainly made of plastic and thrown away after a few days of use then the more we are fucking the environment

Carve a pumpkin and eat some toffee apples and do not give in to Instagram!

Topseyt · 19/10/2021 12:40

No. It isn't a thing and on Planet Topseyt it never will be.

GettingLardy · 19/10/2021 12:40

I think craft and baking things are a lovely idea and you can never have too many books! But actual Hallowe'en presents etc sound OTT

Sunshinealligator · 19/10/2021 12:44

We love Halloween, but absolutely not. I think that we need to be responsible in the things we purchase.
if you are wanting to create a special Halloween tradition, maybe you can have traditions that dont rely on buying lots and lots of stuff.

Sparklesocks · 19/10/2021 12:45

No it’s not a thing.

elliejjtiny · 19/10/2021 12:45

Those who peddle tat will make anything a gift-giving occasion and as long as people fall for it they carry on doing it!
ExplodingCarrots · 19/10/2021 12:49

I'm Halloween mad and this isn't something I do ..or have come across actually. We do costumes , crafts , sweets , treat boxes and a party .

weemouse · 19/10/2021 12:49

This is why the planet is fucked, mindless consumerism

Strokethefurrywall · 19/10/2021 12:50

Halloween baskets are a thing here (Caribbean), but I don’t give them to the kids.
It’s mad enough here as after Halloween we have US Thanksgiving and then Christmas starts almost immediately.
Easter baskets also a thing, but again I’m a nope.

Stop worrying about what people do on Instagram. You don’t need a Halloween basket.

Kljnmw3459 · 19/10/2021 12:51

Isn't it the same as just getting a few halloweeny bits but just presenting them differently? Lots of people get halloweeny stuff for their DC but maybe some just present it as a gift and others don't.

Thatsplentyjack · 19/10/2021 12:54

For god sake do children need presents for every bloody event now. Shall we start bonfire night ond new year gifts aswell?

Fallagain · 19/10/2021 12:55

I did some things last year but that’s mostly due to lockdown. This year we will get the same stuff out to play with.

Cabbagepie · 19/10/2021 12:55

Carved pumpkin lantern to go on the hearth is the only thing we do in our house. Pumkin flesh used to make spiced pumpkin and tomato soup, no Halloween tat or trick or treating

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2021 12:56

It's not a thing unless you make it a thing.

Though I do tend to get books and crafty stuff for Halloween.

thinkbiglittleone · 19/10/2021 12:57

No they don't need Halloween gifts.
We do baking and a few decorations.
We do Halloween disco at home, apple bobbin and games but no presents
Don't copy others on Instagram or allow them to make you feel that you need to "keep up" or do the same.

Blackmagicqueen · 19/10/2021 12:58

Jesus please not a nother thing! That is ridiculous. Nothing wrong with traditions of dressing up, calving pumpkins, eating sweets, baking spooky treats, horror movies etc but not an expectation fuelled gift giving session (that would well and truly ruin halloween!)

ivfbabymomma1 · 19/10/2021 12:59

I get my son a little gift basket of a Halloween book, some sweets, a little porcelain pumpkin to paint (few quid from the range) and a costume if that classes as a "present" and we carve pumpkins!

MrsWhites · 19/10/2021 13:08

No Halloween presents here. I’ve got some Halloween sweet cones to fill for my kids and nieces and nephews, Halloween sprinkles to make some cupcakes and some Halloween craft.

Also reusing a costume that my son already has.

I’m not interested in Instagram parenting and Halloween presents is exactly that in my opinion, same as Easter presents and 1st December presents!

KrisAkabusi · 19/10/2021 13:08

It's not a thing. It shouldn't be a thing. They don't need more stuff. And we don't need to buy it
