Dressing gown spec aibu

I was recently asked by a family member if there Is anything I'd like for Xmas, stated I'd like a new dressing gown. Family member asked if there was a specific one I had seen, told her no. She then asked my size and what colour/design I'd like. Told her my size and I'd like a full length soft fleece, not teddy fleece with no itchy pattern stitched on. Was told I was being far too precise and should just go find one myself, just feel it would be nice for people to put some effort into gifts rather than wanting me to go find my own, I said I wasn't fussed about colour or patterns etc. First world problem i know but just feel like Christmas is a huge chore as I like to put thought into my gifts for others (which this family member always comments how I put thought into them) then expected to buy my own and for my own kids then say its from family member. Aibu to knock all gifts on the head, giving and receiving.

I think that you seem to have quite specific requirements for your dressing gown so it would be sensible to find one you like and give the details.

That’s an incredibly easy buy. They sound like they can’t be arsed.

MsLizard · 17/10/2021 20:39

Just find one online you like and send them a link.

So. A full length soft fleece any colour?
I could find half a dozen in ten minutes.
Hardly onerous.

This family member does not do online shoppingas they don't have a bank account, they send my partner the things they want ordering and they give him the cash when they next see him. Still leaving us to do what little leg work there is, I'd like to see what they think I'd like.

Thank you, I don't feel I was asking too much, I'd be happy with one from asda, just want someone to put some effort in.

They’re not too specific at all. There must be hundreds fitting that description.

I’d like to hunt out a dressing gown as a gift with that description. (It’s much easier than no guidelines at all.) But j wouldn’t love being sent an online link.

I wouldn’t have a clue what you were on about when you started talking about teddy fleece and soft fleece and would think you were being pretty specific and would regret asking!

Tal45 · 17/10/2021 20:56

I wouldn't have any idea if it was acceptable fleece or teddy fleece either. If you'd just said fleecy then I'd have been ok.

Yeah. I pointed to a throw on the back of the sofa and said that's like soft fleece not the thick chunky stuff that doesn't wash well, then the conversation went on to her teddy fleece bedding she bought last year. So she wasn't confused about it, although I see how not putting that detail in could of added to the pickyness.

Yes I agree op. I have to take family members shopping to pick out gifts for me and my DD. That’s after saying ‘buy warm clothes this size for DD please’ Obviously I then have my own xmas shopping to do as well. It just adds something else to the list of things to do and sadly makes me feel like I’d rather have no gift at all.

DappledThings · 17/10/2021 21:57

I didn't realise there were different types of fleece. If I were given requirements this specific I would immediately assume I was going to get it wrong and be reluctant to follow through.

Cuddlyrottweiler · 17/10/2021 22:10

With the Teddy fleece thing you did confuse me but having thought about it, I do know the difference, I don't like teddy fleece, it gets stuff stuck in it and becomes itchy quickly. If you have sensory sensitivity though (the itchy stitched bits) it is best to choose stuff yourself as people will always find the thing that feels horrible. Just choose one and send the link or just send a search page and say "any of these would be lovely "
