Can anyone give me hope by sharing positive experiences of adhd medication?

Too much has gone on to post here but my dc is not being successful at school. It is awful actually. I've finally relented and agreed to adhd medication. Can anyone give me any examples of how this has worked for either yourself or someone you know?

@Corcory Your last sentence is really powerful. Even as a "good girl" I had horrible struggles - never did drugs, but had horrible issues with binging/starving, drinking too much and risky sex when I was younger. Always chasing a dopamine high because when you have ADHD those highs are really high Sad.

I’m a foster carer and my Fs has asd & adhd.
I have met parents of fc who have lost their children due neglect as they are taking drugs and abusing alcohol . I think many of these parents have undiagnosed adhd and are self medicating. It’s so sad.
If they had been diagnosed when they were younger and given medication both their and their children’s lives would have been so different.
Corcory you are so right.

Cassimin and Corcory I feel similarly and have at least one friend who had a major drugs problem and finally got diagnosed at 50... he was self-medicating. It's very hard for him to process how much damage has been done to his life and to others know that he could have been diagnosed years ago. My DC with ASD and ADHD is just about to start a second trial of medication (first - Intuiv - wasn't good) as I can see their self-esteem and confidence is beginning to be affected which is very sad.
