I can’t see anyone coming along on the political landscape with anything close to the ability and vision to solve the many, enormous issues we have in the UK.
The NHS seems doomed - I spent time in hospital a few years ago and received poor care, even before Covid. I was left with lasting mental health issues due to the experience. But no matter how much money is thrown at it nothing changes - it only gets worse.
The Tories have sold off so many valuable assets - like council housing, train companies, even police stations. There’s no way of returning to the old, much better model of community policing with bobbies on the beat.
We continue concreting over the countryside because we urgently need more affordable homes, but we’re destroying countless amounts of green space and wildlife in the process. Yet on the other hand we’re constantly (and rightly) told that we need to be more environmentally friendly.
Wealthy people and companies like Amazon aren’t taxed anywhere near enough - the burden disproportionately falls on lower earners.
There are so many children growing up in poverty, attending sub-standard schools and facing difficult, uncertain futures.
Child cruelty seems endemic and it’s so upsetting and sad.
I could go on but I’ll leave it there. I just feel so despairing right now.
