HRT - estrogel

Just started HRT- on the estrogel at the moment and will do the half a month of progesterone tablets. I don’t feel great though- was hoping it would improve my symptoms but instead it’s made my boobs MASSIVE and uncomfortable. Is this normal? Am on about day 7 of the gel- Aibu to feel a bit worried? Anyone else get weird symptoms when they started taking it?

My boobs were a bit sore for the first few weeks but didn't get any bigger ( could do with a bit extra Grin)
It might just take a few weeks for your body to get used to the Oestrogen hit. If it persists I would discuss it with GP.
Luckily for me my only peri-menopause symptom was poor sleep due to hot sweats. Now all back to normal.

I don’t think you’ve given it long enough yet OP. My mum has used HRT for years and she felt better after a couple of months.

torquewench · 15/10/2021 20:28

I had no physical changes. I merely felt less murderous.

Onedaylikethis21 · 15/10/2021 20:35

@torquewench 😂 Well, that’s what I am hoping for

What dose have you started with? You can start with one pump and increase if needed.

Onedaylikethis21 · 15/10/2021 20:45

@SparklingLime yes, 1 pump as 2 was too much. Hoping it will calm down- want to try it for 3 months

I suffered terrible breast soreness on and off initially, but haven't noticed it lately - been on Estrogel for about 18 months. I started with 2 pumps, increased to 4 for a while but have eased back to 2 and all seems well.

Not as depressed upon waking, less murderous, flushes/sweats still around but more manageable, brain fog improved. Sadly hasn't improved the mild incontinence. 🤣

HairyFanjoBanjo · 15/10/2021 20:48

You need to give it 3-6 months. Depending on age you might even need more.

Lostmarbles2021 · 15/10/2021 20:50

Yes. I’m in my first cycle of it and in the third week got swollen painful boobs. Settled now.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/10/2021 21:07

I'm on the same as you OP. First month when I was taking progesterone in the second half of my cycle my boobs were unbelievably tender & bigger - like early stage pregnancy.

It was only in the first month.

However, I'm still struggling with the progesterone 3 months in. First half of month on oestrogen - fab; second half on progesterone too - have a lot of the pre-HRT issues. I believe it's quite common. Hoping it will settle.

(Oh sorry I'm on patches not gel, I just re-read your post. But it's been transformational.)

So I have now had to stop the Oestrogen as it was making my anxiety 10 times worse - felt so drugged and weird on it. So disappointed as was desperate to feel better. Are the patches less intense?

Can I ask how long it took you to go back to normal? I need to stop taking it as well - extremely anxious, headachy and nauseousz
