Cake advice

Hi there, I’m posting for traffic, so apologies that this isn’t in chat.
Daughter’s birthday is Sunday. We’re out all day tomorrow. Party is Sunday pm. I’ve made the cake today. Should I keep it in an airtight container and ice it Sunday morning, or ice it now and store it ready to go? Will be covered in butter icing.

I’m not normally this organised so haven’t had to worry about storing cakes before!
Many thanks.

Disclaimer - I am not a professional cake maker.

Unless you’ve got room to store it in the fridge once it’s iced, I’d probably do it on Sunday so the butter doesn’t go off being at room temperature. The sugar would preserve it to a degree, I’m sure, and it might be fine, but I’m always afraid of the butter going a bit rank by the time I serve it - it would spoil everything if nobody could eat the cake!

Cling and air tight container and then ice on Sunday. Don't put the cake in the fridge if will go hard

Thanks both - I’ll hold off icing til Sunday. I think I was just excited to get it done but then realised I’m 2 days ahead of where I normally am!

Before icing, you may need to get some moisture into the cake - a simply brush of sugar syrup can be really helpful. My favourite is a cherry juice syrup; really any real fruit juice will work. Just make sure the syrup is warm.

Could you ice the cake Saturday night?

Peace43 · 15/10/2021 15:13

Freeze it, makes it much easier to ice too!

A buttercream cake doesn’t need to be refrigerated and the fridge makes cake go stale quicker.

The buttercream will help keep the cake fresh. You can ice it today and keep it cool until Sunday with no problem.
